Lap-Band and M-Plan or Anthem

I am at the very beginning stages of considering WLS, Lap-Band in particular. I have M-Plan, but could switch to Anthem (Wellpoint) if it's easier to be approved. Any recent experience with either company would be great. Thanks!

any chance you can have both insurances???? that might benefit you to meet out of pocket costs.... Mplan is a little more strict than Anthem... it takes about a week to get approval from Anthem...

Hi Nicole, I never could get approved by M-plan last year. I switched to Anthem the beginning of the year and had not problems. Of course this does vary by what your employer purchases. I would call each and get their requirements. They should be able to fax them to you. Good luck, Tania

I have mplan and they pay for the surgery for the Lap- band but not the retighting of the band after surgery so you might check with yours... they pay for the rny....

A lot will depend on your employer and the coverage they carry. I have M-Plan through the State of Indiana. They would only pay for RNY. Lap-band was not covered at all. However the Anthem plan through the state would not pay for any WLS. Best of luck. Annette

Nichole, I have no experience with MPlan. But I do have Anthem. They approved my RNY before I had even finished the 6 months doctor supervised diet (which was supposed to be their requirement!) I started the diet at the end of July, and had surgery at the end of November. Got approved in the end of September/beginning of October. Linda Vicory
