When thinner will every step hurt?

I know this seems like a stupid question, but I have never been thin and always had some pain while walking/moving--especially in my feet and ankles.  It just occured to me today that maybe thin people DON'T have pain while walking!  I am not talking about stabbing pain--just achy joint type pain--the kind you can overlook if you try.  So am I right that I might not have joint pain when I am thinner or does everyone have joint pain when they walk and maybe I will just have less pain? Please don't think I am stupid--I honestly just don't know!

Hi there.  I don't know what is causing your specific pain, but I can tell you that I no longer get the back pain I used to get.  I injured my back when I was 23 and from that point on my back would hurt whenever I stood or walked to long.  But that doesn't happen now and I can work in the yard or around the house (currently remodeling my bathrooms) and my back doesn't ache from it. Good luck.

Hi! You're new to here huh? There is no such thing as a stupid question..k???? Joint pain CAN be helped with weight loss however, it all depends on what is causing it and to what extent damage has already been  done to it as to if you'd be able to be totally pain-free. If you've already worn away the cartilage in your knee or hip joints, you may continue to have pain..less, but still some.  There is no guarantees but keeping the weight will only make the problem worse.

Believe it or not, skinny people has their aches and pains too...lol. Sherri

It is just kind of shocking to me that not everyone feels pain with every step!  This is a new idea to me and kind of hit me like a brick!  Thanks for the info!!  I am assuming that I will always have some joint pain related to my obesity--it is just a nice thought that I might not have as much pain!

I am like Annette, I had terrible joint pain mostly in my knees, teh bottoms of my feetl hurt so bad from my weight,  no other medical problems as far as joints just the weight on them caused constant pain.  after losing 140 lb i have to say i hardly ever notice my knees or feet, it dont hurt at all and i can walk several miles at a time,  i couldnt have gotten around the block before surgery.  there is light at the end of the tunnel, if you dont have any medical problems other than obesity causing your joint pain i would expect that it will improve drasticlly.  Good Luck,  Carla

Before WLS I was taking medication for back, knee, and foot pain.  Since I dropped the pounds, I also dropped the pain meds. I hope your experience is the same. And - a big WELCOME!

I had tons of joint pain when I moved and becouse of it I tried to move as little as possible.  Now I move all the time and I can walk for hours without pain.  This surgery was life saving for me.  It was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Hi, Welcome to the board- there are No stupid questions here- just people who care & "been there, done that!!"  I had cronic back pain, fibromylaga, 3 back surgeries, RLS,sleep apnea, high blood pressure, heart problems and lots of other med. issues- so walking wasn't one of the things I did. (In fact, I walked with a cane most of the time, when I had to walk.) For me, walking has been the best thing- I started slowing- barely a block at first, then worked my way up to more.Sure, at first it was hard, slow, & tiring- but each step leads to another, feeling better and losing the wieght off your hips, knees, thighs, BUTT, & feeling pain-free is the best benefit!!  Just set small goals for yourself, & tell yourslef- "I think I can -I KNOW I CAN"!!!! (((hugs))) Ellen
