Medicaid payment out of state to COE

Hello,  Iam from Evansville IN, looking forward to being accepted and going through Vanderbilt in Nashville TN.  Iam currently on Medicare and Medicaid QMB / MAL which pays all premiums, deductibles and co payments but how or what is their track record, Medicaid, for approval out of state?  If I have to, in the end, I would switch to the COE in Indiana but its sooo far away.  Thanks.

Indiana State Medicaid usually only pays for in state services. You can call the customer service number on the back of your Medicaid card (you'll need your card ID number to give to the CSR so they can look up your record of benefits) and ask them all the questions you have about your Medicaid. You can even get a list of approved facilities within the state and ask them specifically if since Medicare will pay for your surgery in TN if they will cover their secondary part from there also. You can ask them also about the question you posted about denial based on Thyroid conditioning. I had my surgery in Indianapolis, which is about an hour.. to an hour and twenty minutes away from where I live. At the time of my surgery you didn't need to have ONLY a COE for coverage. Medicare covered WLS no matter what facility the surgery was at, but things have changed since 2005. At that time it was Indiana's Medicaid policy to cover secondary cost ONLY after Medicare payment, but again.. times have changed... so that might be a question to ask customer service when you call the Medicaid customer service number on the back of your card. I am located in Salem Indiana..but going to Norton's in Louisville Ky for my surgery.  I also am on Medicare/Medicaid like you.  They have paid for everything that was done in Louisville without any problems so far......I even use a transportation service because I hate to drive down there!  Hope this helps!
