I had a call today from st vincent hospital. they asked me if i had followed through with a phsycologist that dr.stote had recommended and if i had attended any support groups. NOW im concerned. i have not attended any groups except for obesityhelp and i did not see a phsychologist as I was told it would not interfere with my surgery scheduling. I was not aware that support groups were mandatory . now my surgery may get post poned. has anyone encounterd this? please give me some advice. i will not know anything until in the morning after the nurse talks with my surgeon, dr evanson. I took it upon myself today to write and fax a letter to him stating that i am prepared got this surgery and that i have researched it for about 2 years.  oh, did i mention my surgery is Friday, that right this friday.  please pray that all works out well danielle

I didn't attend any support group meetings until after surgery and they weren't mandatory.  It wasn't required by Dr Evanson at the time.  I only went to 1 psych eval and that was with a Dr. in Ft. Wayne and no more were required.  I guess it would depend on why Dr Stotes wanted you to see someone else.  I sure hope it all goes OK for you.

Danielle, Sometimes, it's the insurance that requires the support meetings and any suggested follow-ups. I think it's their way of judging if you'd be compliant post-op as to how compliant you are pre-op. My insurance did stipulate that I went to the support meetings. I did make sure I went to each of them so I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't. My guess is that the insurance could have refused to pay for the surgery. Sherri

I saw Dr. Stote, and he required that I attend counseling and support groups. I went to the support groups and got the attendance forms they provide and faxed them in to Dr. Inman's office. They really are just trying to make sure you are prepared for all the changes that you will have to deal with after surgery. Linda Vicory

Hey, just thinking of you. I have not seen anything posted if you got your mess straightened out. It is just a few short hours before we start our new lives. I sure hope you did. I have been thinking of you all day long.
