RNY on 08/01/06 with

Hi Julie  I grew up in Highland and now live in Merrillville.  I had RYN Gastric Bypass on 8-1-06.  I'm down 113 lbs.  My Dr. was Dr. Nagle @ Northwestern.

I was going to have LapBand, and decided not too.  Let me know if you have any questions.  email me.  Kristi

hello kristi thanks for replying to my message. so what made you decide not to have the lapband? i have been leaning more toward the bypass. and i think that's what i am gonna do. i just wanted to know what it's like to have the surgery and how are you dealing with the diet? i just need someone to talk to about all this that is closer to me than arkansas. my best friend had the bypass about 4 years ago and she's tha happiest i have ever seen her in many years. she was a size 22 and is now a size 7-8. i just want to be thin again and i know that this will help me. any advice? here ismy myspace page if you wanna see a pic of me i can't seem to get one on here i don't know what i'm doing wrong. hope to talk to you soon. My MySpace URL: myspace.com/drmbaby thanks  julie

Hi.  I'm in the area and had the gastric by pass in May.  I've been doing really well and have no regrets.  I initially thinking of having a lap band then decided for the gastric.  I'm down 43 pls in seven weeks and am on minimal meds now...from five to one.  Had it done at Methodist Hospital. Good luck with your decision!

Hi there... southern Indiana area here! I was going to do the Lap as well but once I spoke with the surgeon and learned all the details I now am going for the RNY. The RNY is being done by my surgeon laproscopicly (spelled wrong sorry) and the way my surgeon does it she said it can be reversed if need be at a later time as well.. I really like my Dr. and she is very helpful and seems to be quite caring. She spoke about the lap and that it is less invasive in total but the overall results are typically not as high as that of the RNY. The lapband falls in the 30-40% of your total weight to lose where the RNY is 75-85%. Hopefully I am wording this where it makes a little sense.. lol but with all the information she offered me I decided I was going to go with the RNY..

I considered the Lap Band..  but I chose the Rny for a couple of reasons. 1. I did not want to deal with a port (they can get infected) 2. The weightloss is slower with lap band and it is easier to gain weight back because the stomach can stretch when the band has lost some fluid and not so tight anymore. 3. I did not want to have to go back to the doctor periodically to have the lost fluid replaced. 4. The band is a "mechanically device" and devices do wearout and break over time.  Since this is a fairly "new' procedure.. I don't think anyone really knows what happens to it after it has been in your body for 15-20 yrs.
