You cant really have it in the first few months post op ....but again everyone is different.  Its more becouse of the carbonation.  You pouch is so little and all that fizzing isnt easily tolerated...and u dont want it to pop open a staple...lol.  Ouch!!!

I was wondering if u will be going to Tanias party.  I have a dress for your daughter if she would still want it for her next school dance.....

Sandra, Ask your nut or surgeon. Most prefer that you wait at least 6 months post-op before attempting any carbonation...some would prefer that you never do. I waited ~ 18 months..and at first, would pour it in a glass and let it practically go flat before drinking..and then I still drank it very slowly. If you can tolerate citris, you might want to try the sugar-free lemonade/cherry lemonade. Both are pretty good. Sherri

My nutritionist has a fit if she finds out I drink soda.  Not only is the carbonation hard on the pouch (and yes, I've even let it go flat), but she said all soda contains phosphorus.  Phosphorus absorbs calcium, it will even suck it out of your bones.  Since we (RNY patients) are malabsorbtive anyway, drinking anything that will pull the calcium out of our system is really a bad idea.

Having said that, do I ever drink soda?  Yeah, once in awhile.  But now I feel so guilty about what I am doing to my body that it is very rare.  I didn't go through all of this just to mess myself up in some other way.  So I only drink soda if I can't get to water or something decaf/non-carbonated.

Ultimately, the choice is yours.  How much do you want to suffer, just for taste?  Can you get something just as tasty, but without carbonation?  There are a lot of options now. Good luck to you.

My Surgeon and NUT are both anti-carbonation so I don't do it at all.  Prior to surgery I was a Diet Coke Junkie!   I drank them all the time.  Since the surgery (8 months ago) I haven't had any and really don't miss them all that much.   I did have one day when the craving hit.  My DH & I were at Wendy's.  He ate the big meal with a Quart-sized Diet Coke.  I had an order of chili.  As we were getting ready to leave he announces that he's going to make a pit stop and asks me to hold his just re-filled Diet Coke for him.   So there I am holding this ice-cold, still fizzing, Diet Coke with no one watching me...I wanted it so badly!    I couldn't help it, I had a sip.     It tasted like medicine. I'm off the Diet Coke for good.  It doens't even appeal to me anymore.   Stick with the water for now.  Try all the Crystal Light flavors, etc.   You'll be surprised later on how you lose your taste for soda pop.

I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
