Knowing when to quit????
What an interesting and confusing time. It has already been a whole year. I went to my 1 year follow -up last week and what wonderful news. All of the labs were textbook! Not 1 result out of line. How great is that? But now, when do you know where to stabilize. I am now at 175 lbs (Wow, never thought I would say that again) and am wondering when will I stabilize. I eat well and it seems like all the time. I mostly eat healthy but still continue to lose a little at a time. It is so difficult to concieve that my body will stop itself? Does that really happen? My surgeon never gave me a goal and said I will stabilize where my body needs to be, just eat when you are hungery and eat healthy. Any advise from you losers that have reached your goal? Did you have a goal?
Ron,
I'll be 3 yr post-op in September. With me, my body decided ~200 lb was low enough. I've been having to work to get each additional pound off. I personally believe that is probably because of some complications I had during my first year post-op. Anyway, I do think the body is a wonderful mechanism and knows exactly when to slow down and when to stop MOST OF THE TIME. No...definately not 100% of the time.
I set my target range according to the 'normal' BMI range for my height. By the time I have my plastics, I'll be pretty much there. For me, that is 124-154 lbs. I set my 'target' for 140...but I will be thrilled for anything less than 155! And note, I want that weight POST PLASTICS. I don't want to wind up at 115 and looking like I belong in Ethiopia by the time the skin is removed!
You best guage...how do you FEEL? Do you feel healthy? If you have concerns that you are losing too rapidly still, call the dieticians and discuss it with them. They will probably suggest that you eat a few high protein snacks per day. At a year post-op, probably not a bad idea to incorporate anyway.
Congrats on the wonderful success you've had!
