Hi everyone,
I go this week for month #2 of the 6-month pre-req. from BCBS for weight loss. I only lost 2 lbs. last visit and dont feel much confidence this month.  I have to make my psych eval. appointment this week, too. I am getting a little bit nervous because I am not doing well onthe weight loss.
Anybody got any tips?

Thanks for any suggestions! Karen

HI Karen,

Hang in there, my wife and I are also on the 6 month plan and you will have your ups and downs. We are going into the 3rd month and have had our fair share already. To help us get through it we just remind ourselves that this diet is just a taste of how things will be different and that in order for this to succeed we have to embrace it (easier said then done). When that doesn't work I think about all of the people on here that are required to be on a supervised diet for a year and I try to suck it up and drink my water.  our best piece of advice is to hang in there and try to keep your eye on the prize. I hope that helps...

Thanks for the support! I do appreciate it. I will keep my eye on the prize. Good thought.

Thanks - I was kind of afraid that they would use my success on the weight loss part as criteria for rejection. I'm trying but I've never been that successful with most diets - which is why I'm here in the first place!

Dear Karen:

Congratulations on pursuing the journey to a new life!

I also had BCBS and at first the requirement was for 12 months.  At month 9, they changed to only requiring 6.

Although you will probably loose a little weight during the 6 months, I don't know if that is really the idea.  If you COULD lose a LOTof weight and leep it off, you would not need the surgery.

The idea of the 6 months is to help prepare you for what is ahead and to make sure that you can be "compliant".  Your clinic/doctor will document your progress and ability to stay on the program.
This 6 months is a great time to change old habits and learn new coping strategies and healthy habits.

Good luck and come here for support!

Tell someone that you love them!

I agree with everything that has been said so far.  It is important that you strive to comply.  Having an RNY isn't a solution it is a tool. If you eat and don't follow the diet plan after the surgery , and let me tell you there is nothing to keep you from putting stuff in your mouth no matter how bad it is for you, you won't get down as low as you can or keep it off. My husband's cousin didn't follow the rules and has gained 50 of her 90 lb loss back and is still morbidly obese.

It takes a lot of hardwork, water, walking and will power. So keep up the good work, follow the guide lines and remember nothing is going to taste as good as thin feels.

I just finished my 12 months supervised diet under BCBS/IL, I can say it was hard, I had to attend PT once a month, see the dietitian once a month, go to four grp meeting, and see my fat MD( this what I call her) she draws labs every 3-4 months. Which i have to see her today(last appt). It's hard but look towards the end, a healthier life style!!!!! Biggest thing DONT MISS ANY APPT or it puts you back a month........good luck, and welcome
