I put some pics on my profile. a couple of the pics are from January and then more recent with the green grass.

Here is the latest in our saga - but first some background. Back in January when we had that rainy weekend we got a ton of rain. Well, sometimes not too uncommon for January in the northern area of IL, correct? Anyways that was just the beginning of the tale. That weekend began everything that has been going on with us and our neighbors. We on our street are a close group. Yes, to a certain extent we are superficial but for the most part we all are in each other's lives with time in the neighborhood, kids and them growing up and new people coming in. We all mesh and hurt when others hurt and band together when needed. And my great niece, husband and her kids live here also.

Back to early January and the rainy weekend and early thaw which is not uncommon for our area. After that we had some times of low temps and then snow . . . thaw etc. We in our 5 house area have had water sitting on the surface of our backyards for more than 90 days (yes wet even as of today). Water equals tree root rot, garage sinking and newer cement driveway cracking.

We had the village out and the director of public works (who I know and will not go into with his personality, did I say lazy?) over and a current village trustee on board saying that yada, yada yada, something needs to be done. But it will cost the village $480,000 to fix. The director kept telling us it was all due to FROZEN GROUND!!! NOT

Fast forward to the day I played hookie, not intentional to what follows, I needed time off on Tuesday. NOW the village is on board because I went to the the director of community developement and said SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!!! One of the neighbors called in a favor from a landscaper and she said something needs to be done because the ground is so wet that the 50+ year old trees are going to be rotting from the roots up and then then trees are going to topple into peoples homes. Can I say not covered by insurance? This does not even account for the fact that there is stagnan****er back there and guess what everyone the mosquito season is bearing down on us

Let me back up even further to the sping of 2007 when we had a house go to a teardown and then a rebuild or we in this town call them McMansions because they are like McDonalds popping up on every corner. Well the people that bought and rebuilt are great people. A local contractor and all around good guy. The rest of the neighbors remember that when he was building he had a major water issue and was pumping out of his newly dug foundation hole lots and lots of water. More than likely a drain tile was struck and then not fixed. Fast forward to November of 2007 to now and all of us are putting two and two together and are coming to the conclusion that he never fixed that drainage issue. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  get our drift?

Well, with my getting the director of community developement on board - that brought the village engineers into the picture. SUPPOSEDLY next week there will be a temporary fix to start draining the water out the north end of this mess (local public works to do this). SUPPOSEDLY AGAIN - the village is working with IDOT to put in a drain tile along the easment and have it drain towards the I-290. They need to work with IDOT to make that happen, by the way IDOT does not move fast as I know from 30 years of experience with me working for the village.

Geeesh, can you say tired? And I really feel for our neighbors right next to us with the garage that is sinking and also it is their new concrete drive (2 years old) - their first baby is due on May 12th, the day after our 35th. I am hoping that it is the 11th. They do not need this right now. They are great kids and a great addition to our neighborhood, we all love them.

(((Chris)))

I'm so sorry you and Dave and the neighbors are battling this mess.  I really do hope the village is not just blowing smoke.  Something has to give.

Best of luck with the Engineers. I do hope they are able to come up with a solution for you and your neighbors.
