Anyone on here a DS patient of DR. Steven Marshall Peoria?/
I believe that Peoria Surgical Group has a Support Group Meeting for DS patients on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Peoria River Plex. You will be able to get a lot of information there. Call their office to find out for sure of the date and to check on the times. I attend the General Support Group meeting that they have every month, and find them to be very helpful.
I have found that Peoria Surgical Group to be very helpful with every question that I have ever had either at the meetings, office visits, or when I have called with questions. You will be in very good hands with any of their surgeons.
If you have any other questions about them, I will try and answer them for you.
Good luck with your surgery.

The DS is a complicated surgery, more complicated than the RNY and band, so be sure your doc has done lots of them. Ask them how many he has done, etc. They should be able to hook you up with a patient of theirs to talk with, even on the phone, if not at a support group meeting, so you can find out more about him, his practice, etc.
BTW, I had the DS 14 months ago and have lost 186 pounds and have regained so much of my life! The DS post-op lifestyle rocks! As long as I get my protein in, I eat what I want, from dessert to fatty cheeses and meats. Feel free to check out my profile for more info.
FYI, I flew to San Francisco because I wanted John Rabkin to do my DS. He comes to Chicago almost every month for support group meetings. He's awesome!!!

Yeah, most DSers do not post in the Illinois forum, as we are in the minority here.

I looked at Dr. Marshall's site and I see that Dr. Thomas Rossi is in that group, too. I know a few people on the DS board have had him or one of his brothers (in a different practice group) as their surgeon. You could post the name of the surgical group in a post on the DS forum and re-ask the question and see what you get.
One person comes to mind. Laurie had Tom Rossi, who is in your doc's practice, and I'm sure she'd have some helpful feedback for you about them. She's done extraordinaily well so far, just 4 months out and lost over 100 pounds. Here's her profile:

I don't want to get too personal, but if you could work part-time at a free-standing Starbucks (and some other employers out there), they offer part-timers insurance that cover the DS. I was about to accept a job there for $8/hour, pay someone $15/hour for a babysitter, just to get the DS (and God forbid, any complications) paid for. Then my hubby switched jobs and got us an insurance that covered the DS.
Best of luck to you!
