Okay, I don't know what to do anymore....help
I got my labs today in the mail and mind you, when I spoke to Katie, finally, on Monday, she said, "oh everything came back good" well when I look at my reports they are not "good" to me. Here's just some idea of what my labs are....please tell me if I need to be concerned or what you would do??
Now first, this is what they told me to take each day:
4 Optisource (or 2 centrum chewables)
1 Vitamin B1 500mg
1 Vitamin D 1000IU
1200 mg Calcium Citrate
Well that's what I've been doing and this is what my labs say:
My Vitamin D went from 23 to 31 (not good enough for me though since normal is over 30!
My B1 went from 116 to 141 (that's certainly better, but is it good enough?)
My PTH is 65 (this concerns me since the range is from 10-65)
My calcium is 9.6
My Ferritan is 24 (normal range 10-154)
My T4 went up from a 7.1 to 10.1
Here's the one that scares me the most and they just don't seem to be concerned at all:
My B12 went from 463 down to 220 the range is 200-1100
Aren't we supposed to be on the higher end of the normal range?? I am so afraid that I am going to have problems from deficiencies...and they just blow me off
What do you all think and does anyone know where I can research what a GB pt's labs should be:
thanks!
Did you get a copy of your labs from the first time you had them done before surgery so you have a comparison?
Refresh my memory because Dave does not take Optisource. Does it have B-complex vitamins in it?
Does the report have all the ranges you are supposed to be in?
Do you have another doctor or NUT that can read the report and fill you in on what you need to know?
In regards to changing doctors my doctor, Dr Rosen takes on WLS patients from other practices. He sure would be a lot closer to you than Hoffman Estates.

I called Dr Rantis's office to get copies of all the Lab work I've had done including those pre op testing ones. I am going to wait til I get those and see what the baseline was before surgery.
Optisource has all the B vitamins in it, Thiamin, B6, Riboflavin, Niacin and B12. What vitamins does Dave take?
The report I have from my 6 month and one year labs does have the ranges where things should be at.
I suppose I could see if my PCP could go over the results with me, he does work with other patients who've had GBS.
I might just look into changing to Dr Rosen for future visits...it IS a heck of a lot closer to me, you're right!
adult multi 50+ formula w/o vitamin K it does not have iron in it because Dave does not need it.
B-Complex ours in addition to what yours has - folate (as folic acid) and biotin
calcium citrate - I take the full 1200mg a day and Dave only takes a 1/2 dose due to the fact that
he had too much calcium in his system, blah, blah, blah. This is per Dr Rantis.
I take iron, B12 (1,000IU) and D (4,000IU) a day. This is per my internist.
On a side note Dave and I just came back from support group and it had the topic of the internet sites to go for pre and PO WLS info and tracking of your diet etc. It was fantastic with great information. Just a teaser for support groups (relevant info and not repeats of older sessions) with Dr Rosen.

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

Your Ferritin is VERY low and the B-12 also (in addition to the D). All of these will make you tired and lethargic.
Are you doing your B-12 sublingually? (Melts under the tongue). That is the only way we can absorb this vitamin.
I found a chewable iron that is bringing my ferritin up nicely. I only had to have one infusion and the hemotologist had thought that I would need them twice a year.
I take WAY more of just about everything than my surgeon's office recommends.
I will send you a private email in a few minutes......
