I am now 5 weeks post op. I have been hospitalized 2x with pneumonia and dehydration and had countless trips to the ER just for being dehydrated. None of the food that I used to like agrees with me anymore like tuna and cottage cheese which happen to be high in protein. I vomit at least once a day and I even have an ulcer that developed after surgery. I'm very frusrated!

I have not had any problems like yours, but I wanted to send you some encouragement.

What surgery did you have?  What does your surgeon say about this?

Maybe step back and work on one thing at a time.....water.  Just sip, sip, sip, throughout the day.  Use a medicine cup or a shot glass and take an ounce every 10 minutes.

Are you pureeing the tuna and cottage cheese?  At this stage, you are still healing and ned to be very gentle to your new tummy.

Hope some of this is helpful!  Take it minute by minute if need be.......

Tell someone that you love them!

I too did not have those problems, but I was not eating either of those foods at 5 weeks out.  I had a real strict surgeon and I really think that made the difference in getting sick and not getting sick.  I have yet to vomit and today is my 1 year surgiversary.  I swear I have a pouch of steel.  While it was extremely frustrating to be severely limited to food intake, I think that is what really helped me.  Your pouch is healing.  Think about a baby, what would you feed a 5 week old baby?  Your pouch really is the same way.  Just my 2 cents.  Every surgeon is different.  Good luck to you.

I really need to go back on the protein shakes to get my nutrition but even those don't taste good to me. I'm just trying different foods everyday and seeing what agrees with me and what doesn't.

They make protein powders in packets like crystal light that can be put in water.  Try those, they may go down easier.

I have to agree with the others at 5 weeks out I was on pureed food. Chicken with broth pureed to a fine stage, apple sauce and protien drinks.  I'm 5 months out and I still do protien drinks to get in the good stuff. Hopefully you are following your doctor's plan for you and not venturing out on your own. I think you have to remember you are no longer eating for your taste buds but for nutrition sake first.  You don't always get what you like especially at this stage.

Why not try some low fat chicken broth, carnation instant breakfast no sugar added, light yogurt.. Keep trying different protien drinks.  I use Ultra 95 from GNC, it is soybased and I mix it with water for 25 gms of protien. The chocolate and vanilla are my favorites.
