Ok heres my deal. I was scheduled for RNY on March 6, 2009 on March 4, 2009 I got real cold feet and canceled. After a few more weeks of research and my wonderful Doc ( Dr. J Wallace) heard all my questions and concerns, I decided to have lap band on April 8, 2009. Yes I am still a little scared and confused. I know I need to do this for my health and my life! I'm just confused about lap band VS. rny. Can you maybe share your stories, and why you picked the surgery you choose. And your loss and how long it took? I would appreciate any input! Thanks!!!

I had surgery 12/08/08. I wanted VSG, but my insurance wouldn't cover it so I signed up for the Lap Band. I changed my mind after research, research, research. After having RNY, I've lost roughly 70 lbs (83 if you count the beginning of my six month diet).

1. The lap band is reversible. Yes, but have you met anyone that was happy to have it removed? Scarring and adhesions aren't the nicest side effects. Visit the "Revision" board for more information.

2. I wanted the weight off NOW! I've dieted for the past 10 years. I was soooo ready to lose the weight.

3. Okay, my hair reflects me and I didn't want to lose it after RNY. If I do, it will suck but oh well.

4. I witnessed a friend go through a painfull revision from band to rny. Another friend also had a flipped port.

5. I had no desire to twea****il I hit a sweet spot. I had no time to deal with a finicky band. NO PATIENCE.

I'm not knocking the band. It has worked so well for so many. These are just some of *my* reasons.

If you would like to discuss further, feel free to PM me. I have no problems passing on my phone number.

Hi there,
When I was approved for my surgery the band was not FDA approved in the states. So I had to have an RNY.
I personally wouldnt do the band.
It can errode your esophagus like my sisters did.
It can slip.
the weight loss is slower.
I have lost around 140 pounds and have kept itoff. I love my RNY.
I am not flaming the band, dont get me wrong. It isnt for everyone.
Carla
Good luck with what every you decided to do.

Hi, I had the RNY Oct. 30 2007, to date have lost 202 lbs, I have had no problems,  I thank my Surgeon for a great job she did, and the fact she is stick on what you can and can not eat and I followed it to a tee,

Why did I go with the RNY, I was all ready for the band said I would never have the RNY, but when I went to the seminar I changed my mine,

1) Band to slow to lose . Both in the long lose the same they said Just band is slower

2) Band would not stop me from eating Sweets, ( my biggest problem)

3) having to get fills

4) Band erosion

this is just my problem with the band, Now the RNY is not with out problems it self

You have to take Vitamins every day

, drink protein or get enough protein in your diet,

is not reversible

it is just a personal preference as to which surgery you go with,
good luck in your journey
only you can know what is best for you.
Take care
Janet

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!
