Constipation
Good Morning Illinois Board:
I am having constipation thats driving me crazy. I have done salads, greens and veggies. (things that usually make me go). Not Working.
Also, I am lacktose intolerant, so I'm trying to watch the dairy, (eat cheese for protein), soy milk etc. I am doing Benefiber in everything, fiber and it's not working. My doctor said he doeesn't want me to take laxatives by mouth so every 2 days i'm stressing with supoositories, warm water.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Candy:
I too had a horrible time with this issue. It wasn't until I started taking Magnesium Oxide (400 mg capsules) that I found the answer for me. That, along with stool softeners (generic Colace) is what works for me. I have retired my jar of Benefiber for over a year now.
In addition to my usual supplements, I take one stool softener in the morning. I then take 3 softeners each evening with 2 magnesium oxides. You may want to start with one magnesium and see if that helps, if not, add another one. I have heard of post-ops who take as many as 4-5 of these each evening, but when I started with that I had the opposite problem (diarrhea).
I also take one Pro-biotic each morning to conquer the gas problem.

Sweet Pea, what is your water intake like? It is no always the ruffage that you take in but the water that handles this problem. I am there with your doctor on the laxatives. My DH had the same thing and he upped his water to the 'enf degree. You might have to resort to buying MOM.
