HE DID IT!! YAAAY...HELP?!?! Need 2 day post op advice!
Hello OH Fam!
Well my husband Cory has now officially crossed over. His surgery was Monday and he did so well that he was sent home Tuesday! (totally unexpected). I tell you fam, no one can tell me that prayer does not work and that God isn't an AWESOME, FAITHFUL and COMPASSIONATE God!
A few hours after his surgery he was out of bed and walking up and down the hallways of the hospital like nothing happened. It was WEIRD! The nurses were shocked and kept asking him if he was in pain. He said.."no not really, just feeling really bloated and need to walk some of this gas off me. Don't walk too close behind me and when I tell you to duck you better hit the floor" LOLOLOL! (Cory's nuts)
One nurse said she has never seen anything like it and she takes care of GB patients all the time. Praise God!
Well.....speaking of the bloat....oh boy! He is having a tough time with it fam. Pain is really very minimal...but I have to litterally almost force feed him. He doesn't want to eat and drinking water makes it worse. What do I do??? He is so grateful that he isn't in horrible pain like he expected to be (from reading some of the stories here) but he he miserable with gas. I feel so bad for him. It is one thing to get the doctors advice, but another to hear it from those who have been there.
Can you please either share your similar stories or give us advice on how to handle? I know it will get better, but seeing him so miserable is hard.
How long does this last?
Any tricks to make his liquid diet more apepaling to him while he's bloated like this?
Any tricks to get rid of the gas (taking his restricted diet into consideration?
All in all, he is so happy he did it. But you should see him...I'm looking at him right now...he looks so sad and miserable. Please help...
A lot of walking helps with the gas, so does a heating pad when resting from the walking. The bloating will last for a few days.
Remember to sip, walk and rest....it is very important to get your fluids in or you will become dehydrated and that will cause other problems.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Do not be too concerned about eating this early out. I did good to get like 1/2 a protien shake made with 1/2 c. water and maybe a 2 oz serving of jello. The jello alone would fill me up. I would alternate between the two. Unsweetened applesauce and popsicles also tasted good.
Some people get relief by laying on the bed and drawing up their knees to the chest and rolling side to side.
Basically, you have to let it wait to work its way out of your system. Try pushing popsicles and fluids such as hot tea. He will not get near the 64 oz requirement for several weeks. Dont fret, it will happen. Hang in there!

Nancy,
Thank you SO much! I read your post to him and he will try the suggestions you mentioned. I am extrememly relieved to hear that this gas is common. I knew it probably was, but it seems to be so intense it kinda scared us. He sleeps a lot, but this is the first time in his life he's ever had surgery so I guess his body is adjusting to everything.
Thanks for the advice on eating too. He's doing ok with his water intake, but I think he could do better.
Thanks again!!
