Hi My name is Michelle and I am 28 years old. I have a wonderful husband and three beautiful children. THey are LIam (4) MacKenzie (3) and Ailie (17 months). I am starting my lapband journey. I am 5'3 and weigh 225lbs. I went to see a lap band surgeon 7 months ago and he felt I was a great canidate but I decided I would give myself 6 more months to try to lose it myself. I was not been able to lose and have instead gained. I am going to the informational seminar with the new dr I have chosen on Sat. and I cant wait to start this journey. I have three young kids and I want to be able to run around with them and not get out of breath, and to be here for a very very very long time with them. I do have some questions if you can help. Anyone used United Heathcare PPO? I contacted them and they said my policy had no exclusions and my dr just had to send a letter of necessity so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it really is that easy. Second I am using Dr Heydari at Centegra Hospital Woodstock. Does anyone have any experience with him or this hospital? Also, after you have the surgery someone told me you are no longer allowed caffinated beverages is this true? Or caffine? And how do fills work? Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting to know all of you :)

Hello Michelle

Welcome to the Illinois board.  Everyone is very friendly and there is so much experience and advice here ( about WLS and other matters not pertaining to weight loss).

I also took a long time to try to do this on my own with no luck.  I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and now I will be getting my LapBand surgery on 3-24!!!!  I'm so excited.  Asfor your questions about LapBand, ask on the LapBand board.  They have so much info there but remember listen to your doctor before you listen to any one here.  As for the caffeine, sadly that is a big yes.  You have to give up caffeine.  I'm sure people cheat but I'm going to try  my hardest to quit.

Good luck on your journey.  Please post on our daily roll call so we ca get to know you.

Michelee, as my DH are a little east of you near O'Hare (Itasca) sorry we do not have any info with your doctor. There are many on this board that are in the 100+ miles radius of your area and would like to say HAY!!

Wished you would have touched base with us before this last Saturday as we would have loved to get to know you (and your family) at our get together in Elgin. Extended family was welcome.

Come into the daily roll call.

As Crystal said about the caffeine - listen to your doctor.

My doctor recommends the first 6 months w/o it. (for both bandsters and RNY POs) I went 12 months and yes I missed it but it was not the end of the world. I just made sure that I weaned myself so I did not have the proverbial caffeine headache. Keep in mind that caffeine causes dehydration and as a PO it is hard enough to get in all that you need to let alone letting caffeine get in the way, it is not worth it.

You should ask your doc about the fills, some are covered by insurance and others are not. That is a good question for the lap band board.

Hello, I have Dr H who is wonderful!  I had surgery last week but I had RNY.  The caffeine is for real.  He suggests not having at all because of the dehydration.  The pre-surgical classes that you go through give you all the info that you need!  What time is the seminar on Sat?  I remember when I went to my seminar last Nov. 08.  I signed up that night for an appt with Dr H for my initial consultation.  I had to wait till Dec for that but then it all went quick!  If you have any other questions I might be able to answer  I would be happy to, I am not sure about insurance coverage for the fills but I would assume that varies by carrier.  i work with insurance at my hospital here so I would suggest to call them and ask.

Welcome Michelle!

 Welcome Michelee

I am glad to see you post!  I had my surgery in Harvard IL but I know several people who had Dr H and thought very highly of him.

I had RNY so I cannot help you much with lap band questions except to say that giving up caffeine was not as bad as I thought it would be.  I dont even miss it.

Please feel free to ask lots of questions and join us for the daily roll call.  This is a great group and everyone is so friendly.  We help each other out however we can.

Welcome Michelle!
I hope to see more of you and get to know you better.
I have RNY, but gave up caffeine, carbonation and sugar.  I don't miss them.

Tell someone that you love them!

Welcome!

Caffeine can dehydrate you and may irritate your pouch early out.

I can't really help you with any band questions, but join the band board....they are filled with knowledge and very passionate about their surgery choice.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Welcome Michelle,
I have the band my insurance is BCBS of Iowa and they pay for fills! All I pay is 25.00 co-pay per visit to see my doc! Carbonated drinks and caffeine are a definite no no. I gave them up on the very day I decided to have the surgery done. I wanted to get healthy so bad that I have never missed them. I will admit on an occasion I will have a half decaf and have caffeine coffee at our local restaurant, on the days that I feel like my bottom is running on slow power....When I do watch out I will clean like a mad woman!!  LOL!
Call your insurance and ask. Again welcome, and nice to have you here!

Karen
