Greetings!

I have decided to looking into VSG & have a few questions.

1. Anyone have their VSG done through Northwestern?

2. Anyone approved for VSG by BCBS of IL?

3. If you have had VSG and live in IL, who did you have your surgery with?

Thank you in advance for any info!

You really have to find out from your insurance if it is a covered expense. Some insurance companies do not cover all procedures.

edited to say

Just because one policy covers a procedure it does not mean it is covered by BCBS of IL as a whole. Each policy covers their holders differently. Take for instance my policy is so totally generous and it covers just about everything, well that is not true for other insurance policy holders with other employers. It is up to the indiviual to contact the company via the 800# on their card to see what is covered. The rest of the members really cannot "totally" answer your question.

Thank you for your reply!

I have BCBS IL PPO - no employer exclusions for WLS. BCBS of IL considers VSG investigational; however, I know people have won through the appeals process. I am assuming I will have to appeal - I would like to know more about the process & if anyone has successfully navigated it for this particular surgery.

I have finished my 6 month pre-cert diet & had opted for DS. I decided to switch over to VSG and would like to find a program in Chicago (preferrably NWM because my PCP & gyn are both affiliated).

Hi, Stephanie. DSer here, so no personal VSG experiences to share. Have you been over to the VSG Forum? The folks there might have some specific advice for you.

A Chicago friend of mine had the VSG a year ago with my surgeon, John Rabkin, in San Fran. He holds (and attends) monthly support group meetings here in Chicago and interfaces very well with my docs at Northwestern. He usually does not recommend just the VSG for patients who have a lot to lose, but she wants to get pregnant soon (her partner had the DS a couple of years ago). So far, so good.

If you'd like more info, feel free to PM me.

Best of luck to you!
