Nutritionist?

Hi everyone...

I'm not losing as quickly as I would like to so I think I should go to a Nutritionist to see if it has to do with what I am eating. Like any profession, I am sure there are some are better than others and would like to find one that has knowledge of what works best after RNY.

From all that I have learned from this site and other reading, there seems to be a wide opinion of the best practices. I was hoping to meet someone here that has high faith in the Nut that they have seen... and that I could get their name. I live within 5 miles of Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove and it would be ideal to see someone near here... but I am open to other locations too.

Does anyone have a name they would recommend?

  I do not think most nuts really get the insulin resistant thing or what folks eat post op.  I like my nut anyway.  Her name is Paulina and she is part of the Alexian Brothers network .  They recently moved to One Alexian Way in Elgin.  I really like that I can visit the physician and the nut in one visit.  If your insurance covers her there is also a psych you can see in the same trip as needed.  The psych is not in my BCBS HMO group so I will have to see one at St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates.

I will get you the name of the dietician that I had to see before my surgery was approved.  I saw here at St Alexius, but I just went to post-op class given by a dietician from Alexian Brothers. 

Have you spoken to Dr Wallace about your progress?  Maybe  you are on target and you don't realize it. 

I think that talking with a dietician is a good idea!!

You got great info from both Randy and Joy. I just wanted to add that you should get in contact with the Kane Center and ask them for info on who to go and see. Didn't you need to see a NUT or dietician of their choice before your surgery? You could always call him or her that you saw before your surgery.

Yes, I did see a nutritionist before my surgery but I wasn't overly impressed. I was hoping to tap into the experiences of the many sucessful people here in the Illinois Forum. I thought that someone may have beeen in my situation and had good luck after seeing a Nut.

I understand where you are coming from. I am going to guess that you went to ABMC? You can always call that department and ask for information on meeting with a NUT that is experienced with WLS. If you are given that NUT's name again for an appointment you can quite frankly say no thank you I met with him or her and was not impressed. You are the patient/customer and you can dictate who you want to see. Hope this is helpful.

I went to see a nutrionist thru the Kane Nutrition Center, but I also had to see a dietitian.  I was not impressed with the Nutrionist that I had to see.  The dietitian seemed to know what she was talking about and how to deal with eating after surgery.

Below are two names of dietitians that work with the Kane Center.  I don't know if you saw either of these women.
