Topic: First Support Group Meeting
I attended my first WLS support group meeting last night in Iowa City.   There were people there in all stages of WLS -- from folks like me who haven't even had their first Dr.'s appointment to a lady who was 20 months out.  It was very informative and inspiring to hear the "veterans" tell us about the benefits of surgery from their perspective.  I will definitely go back.  Each step make it feel more like this is actually going to happen.  Have a great day, all. I don't even want to talk about the crap I have been eating for the last 4 days- still eating as I type - last hurrah I didn't really have many food funerals the last few weeks- and have been trying to do a protein shake for breakfast and lunch- but these last few days I lost my mind

I forgot to mention that tomorrow night, May 5 is the monthly support group meeting. You might want to go as others who have survived the clear liquids can give you some good tips and when they hear you are so close to having your surgery, they will be especially supportive. The subject of the meeting this month is exercise & will be moved to the wellness room at Sartori so that Timi can lead the group in exercise. There will be directions to the room. I'm sure Angie will be there to answer any questions. The meeting is at 7 but many come at 6:30 to ask questions. I don't know if I'll be going. I have a breast cancer support group meeting earlier & might be sick of support group meetings by evening. Dixie

Don't do it! If Dr. G gets any idea that you did cheat, he may cancel the surgery. He has done it. It should be getting better for you. Most of us found that by 4-5 days, we weren't as hungry anymore. Remember, you still have 2 weeks after your surgery of clear liquids. If you can't do it now, how will you expect to do it then? The first fat to go is what is on & around your liver. Obese people have large livers & by losing that fat, you make it easier & safer for Dr G to do it laproscopic. Ok, that was the official answer. Yes, I'm sure many have cheated, (I ate 2 T of pico de gio) but it's not a good idea. Like I said, he has been known to cancel. Dixie

Did you ever "cheat"?  Even a little bit?  I am almost through with my first week of the liquid diet, and I am so hungry and grouchy.  I seriously don't know how I am to be expected to handle this.  I can have broth, protein powder mixed with water,  sugarfree Jello, juice, sugarfree popsicles and diet pop, gatorade, etc.   I know I need to do it for laproscopic reasons, but holy crap!  I'm a total meanie to my whole family because I'm starving!!!

Topic: RE: New with Questions

Well that's interesting.  I called the Mercy clinic on Franklin - and asked for an appointent for WLS screening.   I didn't think to ask how LONG the appoint will take.     My insurance doesn't indicate how many times I need to see the psychiatrist - just that I have to be cleared by one.      I'm pretty sure my insurance will cover it --  for me the cost comes in lost billables.  I am a consultant and get paid when I work, and don't when I'm off.    I haven't been told to schedule with the dietician yet.    Aside from the sleep test tonight, and the follow up from that on the 15th, my next steps were the meeting at Mercy with the nursce on the 21st, and making a psych appointment.       I'm trying not to set expectations as to when I'll finally get to the surgery.
