Does anyone have this insurance? Is there a way around the 6 months of doctor supervised diet?

You should be able to contact the Iowa Medicaid Enterprise to see if WLS is covered under IowaCare and what the requirements are.      As for finding out more information about the process - a lot of the bariatric surgeons offer free seminars once a month or so to give you more information to help you decide if you want to continue.  Good Luck.

Topic: IowaCare and Weight loss?
Hi, I am on Iowa Care, and am wondering if anyone else managed to get weight loss care or surgery approved. My doctor is pushing for surgery, but so far I am trapped in red tape. I haven't been able to meet with a surgeon or anything to continue my education regarding whether or not I even want surgery. Anyway, if others have experience with Iowa Care, I'd love to hear from you.l Thanks!

HI there, I would suggest you re-post this on the main forum for lap band & I'm sure you'll get a ton more of replies on it.  As for the pop it is because of the carbonation.  I was told imagine taking a ballon and putting pop in it and then shaking it.....it causes the balloon to expand just like it would in your stomach then causing the band stretch (which I was told is horrible, horrible pain) and that it wears the band out faster.  As for the milk, I have not been given an answer to this as of yet but I have noticed that when I eat anything that is milk based then I tend to get sick to my stomach almost as though I have become lactose intolerant.  I just had surgery a week or so ago and as for me I had to do a week post op clear liquids (broth, water, crystal light, special k protein water, sugar free popsicles/jello) and now I am into my 2nd week and I am now doing "full liquids" where I can have the same as above but now I can have applesauce (sugar free) pudding (sugar free) and stuff that can be eaten through a straw like protein shakes as well.  However, every Dr. is different w/their rules and so are ppl who follow them because of their tolerance.   Well, good luck & hope you find the answers you are needing!!

Hello everyone. I am new to this and have some questions regarding the lap band surgery. What is the diet like after the surgery. I know this is a lifetime change and am ready for it, but just curious as to if there are some things that you can still possibly eat after having the surgery but just in a smaller portion than before? Also, why is carbonated beverages not recommended, and no milk can be drank? These are a few questions I have. I understand most of it but there are quite a few things that don't make sense to me and I am sure they will later on. I just started the process and have only had the phone interview with the hospital. I haven't done the classes or met with the surgeon or anything at this point. My husband is also looking into doing this as well, but he is considering not doing it now even though I feel he needs to do it. Can anyone give me details as to what we have in store for us as far as the diet, etc. Thanks

Hi to everyone!  Wondering where everyone is? Busy time I guess. I talked to my nurse today from my Ins. and she said that 70% of the people  that she talked to that were getting Lapband surgery were HAIRSTYLISTS.   Thought that was interesting!!  Are there any out there????  I"m one, Margo!!
