I'm on the other side!!!!
Hi All,
I made it throught surgery and am on the other side. The doctor said there were no problems with the surgery and overall I am feeling pretty good. They seemed to have a problem gettin gmy pain under control in recovery and once I was in the room they had me on some pretty strong meds. My advice to people who are coming up on the surgery, if you feel super light headed and incoherent and nauseaus most of the time once you reach your room ask them to use a weaker pain med. Once they switched mine I was able to walk and do the breathing machine and eat my ice. Before they switched I couldn't do any of those things without taking numerous breaks.
So, I went home on Saturday and fell down the stairs on Sunday. Sprained my ankle so I am not staying at home for a couple of days until I can walk without the crutches. Talk about the "Queen of Klutz"!
I am doing good, my only concern is how weak I feel and how quickly I get tired. Is this normal. Taking a shower has totally wiped me out. I am posting this and then heading to bed. Drop me a line so I know I am not crazy. Oh, and so far, no vomiting except the dry heaves at the hospital before they changed my meds.
Thanks for all the prayers and calls, they were really appreciated!!!
You all stay blessed!
Valarie
Hi Valerie,
I am so glad to hear your surgery went well. And I am so sorry to hear about your fall. My goodness, that on top of the surgery!
I a just passed 3 weeks out and still feeling the tiredness. Over the next few weeks your body is going to be getting use to no caloric intake and go into hibernation mode. Make sure you rest when you need to and try and get in fluids. Water is just now getting tolerable to me bu****ered down juice, green tea and SF popsicles count as fluids and seem much easier for me to get down.
Please be careful, the weakness and tiredness are very normal so remember to stay safe, and careful on them stairs!!
Let us know if there's anything you need.
God's Blessings
Barb
Thanks Barb,
The reassurance about the tiredness really help. I am not really liking water right now either, but I do like the ice from Sonics. I also am drinking lots of watered down apple juice, crystal light, and I have discovered A green chai tea with protein drink at Wal-Mart that isn't too bad and had only a little apple juice as the sweetner. I think it is put out by like Booth Farms or something like that. Don't like the taste of sugar free popsicles, but may try no sugar added juice bars. Also had strained chicken soup from a Jamaican place, it was great, probably because it wasn't quite so bad, but not to strong either.
Good luck and blessings to you as well
Valarie
Valarie, congratulations on getting to the losing side... so happy that your surgery went smoothly. That's a bummer about your ankle. I really hope it heals quickly and completely. Don't worry about being so tired. Your body has been through a major ordeal (followed by another one!), and it will take a few more weeks before you're feeling like yourself again. Even then, take it slowly! Let your body recuperate as much as possible before trying to go back to your "routine day."
Blessings,
Cheryl
Welcome to the losers side Valarie! I remember being weak like you are describing - it took me about 4 or 5 weeks until that passed. Infact if you read my profile I think I mentioned taking a shower made me so tired I had to nap afterwards. Heck I took a nap every day for a few weeks. Your body just needs to heal so it directs all your energy to doing that.

Hey Valarie,
Glad to hear you are out of the hospital. Sorry to hear about the bout with the stairs! Hope your ankle heals quickly!! As far as being tired. I am dealing with that also. I glad to read the post that tell us this is normal. I'm not used to sleeping so much. I figure my body must need it. Can you believe it Valarie, we are open the other side now. I have not had any major problems so far so I feel blessed! I reread the information the doctors office gave us everyday to try and make sure I am doing things correctly. Valarie do you remember being told anything about protein pills we could get from Walgreens? I am trying to find out more info because the Walgreens near me does not know anything about them. Well it is nap time for me! You get some rest and keep in contact!!!
Valerie
Hi Valerie,
I don't remember about protein pills, but I did find an interesting protein drink at wal-mart today. It is green chai tea and protein drink from some company like Booth's Farm (I think, I need to look at the bottle again) I think Walgreens might have had the multi-vitamin, but I got all of the vitamins and minerals from GNC, so I'm not sure.
I pray that your recovery continues uneventfully and that you continue to feel better each day.
Valarie
