Hey Gang, Hope everyone is doing well....it has been a littlw while since my last post. Life has gotten a little crazy these last couple of weeks. I have my date 7/5/05...so I will be doing the BBQ thing on the Friday or Saturday before. Also went for the research stuff for Dr. Lin at Emory Bariatrics. This actually was pretty interesting. I spent most of my time with one of his associates on the project, her name was Nana Gletsu, VERY nice woman, loved her to death. As for the research, the first day I was there they gave me a complete itinerary of the testing that would be done, and believe it or not they followed it to a T. On Thursday morning they got me up bright and early (5:30am...lol..i dont even get up that early to go to work) and started the 24 hr urine sample, and of course because they want it I cant go...about 8am they put 2 IVs in and started fluids, they then tested by blood sugar every 5,10,15, 20 etc minutes...I was then given a massive dose of glucose...talk about a sugar rush...blood sugar went from 114 to 380 in like 10secs....they then tested it every couple of minutes, they then gave insulin...I later found out that the test was to show why I am diabetic and the results are that my pancreas(sp?) is verrry slow. The next day was all about measuring me, they put in a thing they call the Bod Pod...reminds me of the egg the Mork from Mork and Mindy landed in....lol....that test showed that I have more muscle then I thought....60% fat 40% muscle which was a good thing to hear....after that I got to go home, and let me tell you after 3 days of hospital food I was so glad to get out of there.....lol....well enough of my ramble...how has everyone been doing.....HUGS Erica

Wow - talk about some detailed pre - op testing! Is all this extra testing because you are diabetic? I am curious! Kia 284/209/155 ish

Hey Kia, Congradulations on the pool No the extra test was because I participated in a research project that my surgeon is doing. He is trying to see why when people who are diabetic and have the surgery the diabetes basically disappears, they have done 29 people so far (i was the 29) and all of them have had it disappear, so I am hopeful. The one thing that is cool is I was given all the results so I have actual numbers for the changes pre and post surgery. The only thing that sucks is that I will have to go again a month after the surgery then 3 mos and then 6 months at the 6 month mark I have to have another endoscopic look at my stomach(well pouch at that time) but it is worth it have all the infomation
