Not doing any better.

Hey guys. I just wanted to update to say that things are not any better. I am so depressed right now that all I want to do is cry. I spoke with my NUT and she had me call the doc. Well, he is not sure what is going on. He doesn't think that I have a structure, too early for that. He said that I may have some inflammation in my pouch. He put me on some medication that is suppose to help, but not much relief yet. I see the doc tomorrow, so we'll see what he thinks then. I am so down and out about this. I was doing everything I was suppose to do and it is like this is not working for me. I knew that I had made the right decision, but now I am not so sure. Even my weight has halted. It has been almost a month and I am not losing any weight at all. I can't eat, even the foods that I am suppose to have. I can't drink. I barely get in 18-20 ounces of water, and the protein supplements are out of the question. Just the thought of eating something makes me sick at my stomach. I thought that reading the message boards would give me some encouragement, but now that I see how good everyone else is doing, I am even more depressed. Sorry to be so bummed out. This is the only place that I can let my feelings out without feeling guilty about it. I hope this goes away soon. I can't take much more. Sherry

Sherry, I'm not quite sure what was meant about being too early for a stricture? Are you unable to keep food and water down? Are you just having a hard time getting food for the day in? I'm sorry I must have missed your other post about what is going on. The first month for me was extremely hard. Not everyone just has a massive weight loss to begin with and make sure that you aren't weighing yourself everyday. This will cause you to be even more depressed. Remember that it will take time to lose your weight, as much as you'd love for it to happen over night it just doesn't. I took me for instance over 2 years and I'm still losing now. Don't give up and we are here for you. Amy

Amy, Thanks for responding. The food and water that I am able to get down stays down. I am not throwing up or anything, it is just that everything makes me so sick at my stomach. At this point, I am not so concerned about not losing weight, I know in time, I will start to lose. I am more concerned about not being able to eat. I am in the soft protein phase right now. Everything that I can have makes me sick. Just smelling of chicken broth makes me nauseous. The only thing that doesn't make me sick is popsicles. I am not getting on the scales anymore, it is just too depressing. I just want to be able to do the program like I am suppose to and I can't right now. Sorry for being so down and out. But, I am trying hard to not give up. Thanks for being there. I need all the support that I can get. Sherry

Sherry, Trust me I understand. The first month killed me and when I started soft foods everything on the list just didn't fly! It was so hard. I finally found some foods that went well and stuck with those, I didn't get much protein in at this point...ugh! But all you can do is try your best. What is on your list at this point? I know when I got to soft foods I was doing cheese, it was some source of protein. I was sticking with sliced cheese, not as dense. I'm trying to remember what else worked for me then... ummm I had soups a lot, I got sick of the broth too... I was living on popsicles too, quite honestly I was missing food at this point so that was driving me even more batty and wondering when the heck would I have some REAL food again...lol You'll get there. It doesn't sound like since you can keep food down that you have a sticture, but likely just soreness from the surgery site inside and swelling. All normal. With time it will improve. Amy

Ok... I just went and read your blog from a few days ago. Here are just some thoughts, I'm 2 1/2 years out and even now I have big problems with scrambled eggs, it's very possible that it's just too dense for your pouch, now I'm able to handle a hard boiled just fine. It's something to do with the density. If you are having problems with the eating part, make sure you are chewing very well, take 30 times to chew something, make sure you are spacing out your bites. If you eat too fast in the beginning you'll get a sick feeling or eat too soon or too much. I don't think you are eating too much. Some days in the beginning for me food wouldn't agree, you have to find things that seem to work and stick with those. The main thing is to make sure you are getting in as much liquids as possible, this might mean having to sip all day long, but the last thing you want is to become dehydated. That can happen very quickly after this surgery. So maintain having something around you all day to drink on. If you don't reach the 64 oz, don't sweat, but try your best to get as much as you can. Each day will continue to get better. Try to think positive and know we are all here thinking about you Amy

I'm sorry you're not feeling well Sherry. Good luck tomorrow. I hope Dr. Richard can help figure it out for you. Keep your thoughts positive and stay off that scale! I already made that mistake and thought I wasn't losing anything. It's not going to happen overnight! I put the scale up. Have you tried refriend beans? I melt some cheese on them & it all goes down smoothly. Keep us up to date on your visit. I'll be praying for you. Margie

I just wanted to give you some support here too. For about the first 6 weeks post op I had an upset stomach as well and just about every smell made me want to gag. Heck I gagged just brushing my teeth for goodness sakes! I am glad you are in contact with your doctor. I hope between the two of you that you can get past this initial stage and hopefully feel better soon! Kia

Hi Sherry. I am sorry that you are having such a hard time. I am almost 2 years out and I had a horrible time for the first 3 months. I found the only thing I could eat in the beginning that didn't make me sick was thinned out instant mashed potatos so that is what I pretty much lived off of at first. I asked my doctor about it because I was worried about not getting enough protein and water in and he said just drink as much water as I could and be sure to take my vitamins and I would be fine. I was really depressed for the first 3 months. I cried almost everyday and asked myself why did I do this. I had no energy at all and then at 3 months out everything changed. I was able to eat more so my energy was better and my depression just went away. At that point I was finally able to say that I was very happy that I had gone thru with the surgery! I was what they consider a slow loser and would get frustrated but now I have lost 120 lbs and had a tummy tuck, breast lift and arm lift and I couldn't be happier. Hang in there because it does get better and you will look back on the hard times and they won't seem so bad. Take care of yourself.
