Hi, I am 14 months post-op and I am having some ankle pain in my left ankle. I had been told after my surgery that I can only take tylenol now, no ibuprofen or aspirin at all. Does anyone know what I can safely take for the inflamation that occurs with a twisted ankle for instance or arthritis type pain? Thanks for your help. Sincerely, LMW

Check with your doctor about what and how much of a pain killer you can take.

call the doc. You can take prescription vicodin or some other yummy tylonol based drugs. There's always liquid lortab...if it hurts that bad. From someone who got a hole in her stomach from the wrong meds (prednisone-wasn't on the bad list...) don't take anything unless your SURGEON approves of it. 3 years out and I still call him when I have questions.

I have had 7 surgeries which 5 where fusions on my left ankle, so I feel your pain. I found that a nice muscle relaxer helps, just has good as the anti inflamatories. Also, ice and elevation seemed to help me more than the anti inflammatories. It seems the anti inflamatories just mask the problem. They are not fixing it. So that is was why I always ice and elevate my ankle, when it starts swelling. To me the swelling is telling me I need to give my ankle a break. Also, icy hot, seems to help too. You might try glucosimine, which is a vitamin or shark cartlidge. Which will strengthen the ankle. You can go online and find some good exercises for your ankle. But as always check with your doctor before taking anything. Do you have the list of bad drugs? If not let me know and I will try and email it to you. Lea Lewis
