I have found out that my insurance, BC/BS of GA, will not cover my WLS!! I dont know what else to do to get the surgery. I dont have the means to self pay. Is WLS only for the wealthy? What about those of us that need it but do not have $20,000 laying around. What do I do now?

What kind od BCBS do you have mine is BCBS POS and it paid 100%, but it also has to do with whether the company you work for chooses to take that coverage or not. Melissa

I feel your pain. Unless your employer purchases the separate WLS rider which is outragous..they won't cover it. My husband has BC/BS HMO of GA. When I called his human resources department they said even if we switched to BC/BS PPO or POS that they have an exclusion. They looked into purchasing the rider but it was like an extra 100.00 per person and they couldn't just add it to some policies that wanted it. It was all or nothing. Lucky for me I found a job in August that will cover WLS, but I have to do a 6 month dr. supervised diet. Best thing to do is try to get the WLS financing which the dr. offices have info about that or figure out how to self pay. Like taking money out of 401K or refinance or 2nd mortage your home. Good luck and Best Wishes!!

Is it an exclusion from your employer? Or did they give a medical necessity reason. If not an exclusion, you can always appeal it. There is a good attorney who handles WLS cases: Gary Viscio www.ObesityLawyers.Com not sure if they can help
