Has anyone else battled this ? I seem to have a very tough time with having to go on 325 mg of ferrous sulfate for 90 days at a time. I just had labwork done and my iron level was sad I am wondering about infusion therapy and if anyone can tell me the pros and cons of it and when it is necessary? The iron pills take so long to work and I can barely hold up my head! Thanks

When i was pregnant with my son I had to have surgery and my iron and blood count was so low I had to have two pints of blood and an iron infusion! It is not fun! Please take your iron pills. My level was so low it was a 6. Good luck and make sure you don't miss taking your iron pills. I wouldn't recommend the infusion - unless your levels are too low for the pill to help. You may have to go to a specialist like I had to. Best of wishes, Emily

What kind of a specialist? Can you tell me exactly how infusion works? Do you have to STAY on the iron pills? As soon as I come off, it does not last long before I'm exhausted again.

Tracy I am pre-op and my iron is low as well. I was taking 1150 mg a day. I did that for 2 month with very little improvement. My surgeon changed it to Pro Ferrin ES(over the counter) 4x a day and instructed me to take it with at least 8 oz of orange juice 1 hour before I eat. I had my blood work done 2 weeks ago and it has really improved. I hope this helps. Sorry I don't know anything about an infusion.
