I am new
Hello everyone, my name is Karen Sanders. I have reading this great web site and all of your post for the last several weeks. I was a little afraid to join in. I am in the beginning stages of the process for the gastric bypass. My first appt. with Dr. Michael Blaney - Augusta GA was July 25th. He told me I was a good candidate for the surgery. My second appt will be on August 8 and the Dr. asked me to bring my husband. The biggest worry that I have at this moment is that a few years ago, I had surgery called (Nissen or Fundoplication) to repair a hole at the end of my esophagus that was causing terrible acid reflux. The dr. says that he will have to reverse that before he can do the gastric bypass. Actually, he will do both at one time. Therefore, I cannot have the surgery laparoscopic; I will have to have it open. Has anyone else here had this same situation?
P.S. Reading all of your posts have really given me great courage to go through with this...
P.P.S. I live in South Carolina. However, I am only about 20 minutes from Augusta GA and my doctor and hospital are also in GA. That is why I chose the George forum. I hope I was right about doing that.
I thought I posted a reply but it did not show up. I had the fundoplication done, a full wrap. My doctor discussed it and with the duodenal switch he thinks I will not need to have it reversed. I am having my surgery open.
I understood with the RNY, it had to be reversed. Please keep us informed on how the surgery went.
HI Karen! WELCOME WELCOME!! You are ALWAYS welcome to join in the Ga board, even if you are a Carolinian!!
I did not have the issue with the Fundoplication, but I did have my surgery open, and it was a breeze.
Don't ever be afraid to join in here. You will find this a VERY friendly, warm, board!!
Take care and good luck!

Just a question have you talked to Dr. Duncan, or any other Dr. for a second opinion. I know that they may need to reverse it, but as far as open vs Laparoscopic.
