Is everyone aware that Blue Cross, Cigna and United Healthcare will no longer cover bariatric surgery as of January 1, 2006? Time for us to take proactive steps. Carol

Carol, Cigna will cover it if medically needed just like this year. It's a Company decision if they cover it or not. I called Cigna today and Disney is still going to due the surgery if medically needed. You needed to call Cigna and see if you Company is going to have the exclusion or not. Thanks for the heads up though it got me to call and check.

Is that why they are trying to deny the surgery now??? Oh my God! I have done all this work for nothing?? Please tell me it is not true! They will not cover it after January 1, 2006?

Hi Carol, I'm actually new to this site and new to this whole process and was surprised to read your posting. I sure hope you are wrong. My insurance is through my husband which is BC/BS Federal Employee Program's PPO and according to the plan info for the 2006 booklet we received about 2 weeks ago gastric bypass is covered. Maybe there are certain plans under these insurance plans that do not cover the surgeries, but so far, so good for me. Now my info has not been submitted to BC/BS yet, but within the next week or two I'm hoping - so maybe it won't matter anyway. But I do agree that pro-active steps is needed for the insurance companies to step up to the plate. I would have chosen the lap band myself, but my insurance will only approve the RNY - I believe I and my Dr should make that choice. In any case, I'm still excited and hope everything goes through.
