Dear all, I discovered over HurricaneKatrina that I don't dump. How could this be? and what now?? I am 7 months out, 80 lbs down!! I avoided sugar completely for the first 5 months. For month 6-7 I only thas occasional tiny tastes. But I got stressed over Katrina and binged, and didn't dump. I did gain 5 lbs :{{ I'm concerned about heading into the Holidday season.

Jenie, I, too, don't dump. It really depends on the overall sugar content and when the last time I at was but, even at it's worst, it wasn't as bad as some people had said. I don't tolerate cinammon buns or pancakes...and I've tried them...but I tolerate a regular coke!! I pray for dumping because it would be another tool to help me control my eating habits. But since we don't dump, we have to be stronger together and ever diligent in what we eat. I'm one of those unlucky ones that not only DON'T dump but I can also tolerate sodas (which is my weakness) and most bad foods...I just do the best I can. You might want to start a food journal...and be honest with yourself. Allow yourself a "goof" every now and then and don't beat yourself up. We were strong enough to go through the surgery and recovery...we can be strong enough for ourselves. I started a Florida forum thread entitled "What Did You Eat Today". Try getting on once a day and adding your eating. Not only will this help you stay focused but it'll also help you in seeing that everyone has their bad days. Good Luck 12/8/04 283/190 (-93)

OK. You do not dump. From what I understand there are several ways to "dump". When I eat too much, ingest too much sugar, eat too fast, I feel very uncomfortable. I wish I could but I have not been able to do that since I had the surgery. That is one way to "dump". Another way (sorry if this is too graphic for your) is to have a real fast bowel movement. I have had this happen to me and last 1-2 hours. with maybe 10-15 minutes between occurances. But when it is over, it is over. You can tell it is very different from a regular case of dirrareaha. Sometimes I feel a little nauseated and sick to my stomach. If I have the opportunity, I take 2 tums and sit in my recliner for 10-15 minutes and that feeling will go away. The Best answer of course, is to eat right according to the rules. But again, I have found it might be ok today, and your body unable to tolerate it the 2nd time around. I have found out, I must be prepared for anything to happen.

Forgive me in advance if this sounds a bit preachy, but here I go anyway... Don't forget that our surgery is a tool, not a magic bullet. Push your pouch to it's limits and you will find you will dump. I dump more on sugar now than before, but I also can eat more now than before and have found "tricks" around getting too sick. There is some sense of accomplishment when you can say NO to a "bad" food and make a better choice but it isnt easy and we all know that. Use your lack of getting sick as a lesson/test to practice better self control and patience which is something EVERYONE needs during the holiday season to avoid gaining weight. I know I gained weight prior to surgery because of bad choices and emotional eatin; unfortunately, those didn't magically disappear when I got my surgery, the burden for change falls on me, not the pouch . Am I an angel ? Absolutely not, but I also know what is recommended for me to eat and what I should avoid, my pouch just follows my lead. Try to challenge yourself to make some changes your first holiday season post-op (big or small) and then treat yourself at the beginning of the new year with a new outfit or some "bling bling". Those would be a lot more fun to show off than the extra pounds you may gain because you can't dump, right? Just my two cents... Amy -200lb 6/02/2004

I don't dump either but I'm still extremely careful because I'm post op. Try not to stress your binging! Just refocus and move on. Take care of yourself! Keke

I know those backgrounds ANYWHERE! LOL! Actually, I went on one, too, when I was a year out! I could never enjoy myself like that before! And waht a pleasure to have my little pouch tell me: Stop Eating Now! I DID dump once after a midnight buffet. Chocolate cake did it, I think. Oh, well, now I know! LOL!

Because I've been on regular food before I left the hospital. I don't get the normal dumping symptoms that most people get when they eat sugar or something of that nature. The only time I vomit is when I dont chew my food well and that's usually because I'm rushing. With all that said......this is the reason I say I do not dump!! Keke
