B12 Question
Just looking for some feedback. Surgery done 12/03, down 100#, otherwise healthy. My B12 was 188 two months ago, increased injections to 1 & 1/2 doses per month and supplementing with sublingual tab daily. Level increased to 384 after 2 months. GB surgeon wants me to see Dietician. Should I go to a hematologist or go to dietican? Thanks in advance for any advice!
Laurie
I feel I am eating the correct foods, (protein first, protein powder & protein shakes to supplement my diet) and my body is not processing the B12 correctly - Saw a dietician pre-op and I am following all the rules given - not sure if it would do any good to see a dietician - but, that is my question - would you see dietican before seeing a physician who specializes in blood disorders? Thanks for your help! Laurie
Laurie, you may need a physician referral before seeing a hematologist. Did your surgeon explain why he wanted you to see a dietician? I guess I would throw this question back at him since he was the one who suggested it in the first place. I don't feel like I can advise you.
As for B12, I've been told that sublingual works for absorbtion, injections are definitely absorbed of course, but we definitely don't absorb B12 that's swallowed.
Good luck, whatever you do!!
