Hump Day Roll Call
Lori,
I guess I didn't need to check your profile to see that you had my surgeon too LOL. Overcash seems to often lack a bedside manner and can say things that really cut to the core....BUT I honestly feel he says those things to challenge us to stick to the plan and stay on track
. Trust me, he treats lots of his patients like that but I still like him and feel he is a great surgeon. We've laughed about him at our support group meetings, but I have also seen him be sweet and kind so I know he has that inside him too
!
My suggestion for you right now: Don't focus on his words, focus on what you need to do to be successful with your WLS.
Ask yourself if you are HONESTLY following the program precisely as prescribed for success! Also, if you aren't already, start logging your food intake on fitday.com, start or increase your exercise and I promise it will pay off in the end.
I once went with a friend to our follow-up appointments, my girlfriend went in to her appointment with her food journal in hand, exercise log and begged him not to yell at her. He laughed but he told her she was still eating too many carbs, not getting enough protein or water and told her to add another mile to her walks, she got ticked off at him too, but did what he told her and she lost again within days. He also said that if she did all that and she still lose by her next follow-up then they would look into the reasons why. I go into each appointment with him being a smartass right from the start so I think he and I kinda connect with humor, he gave me a hard time once but I also knew I hadn't been perfect with my part either, so I saw it as a kick in the butt
.
Hang in there, you have tons of support on here even when you dont feel like you have it from Dr. O
!

Hi Amy,
Thanks for the wors of encouragement.
Dr O has one last chance with me. I have been to way too doctors who have treated me poorly due to my weight and I don't need him to be that way too. I don't care if he treats everyone that way, it doesn't make it right and if more of his patient let him know that he can't treat us like that then maybe he would change. Like Dr. Phil says, "You teach people how to treat you." I need to change how I let him treat me.
Thanks again for the support. I appreciate it.
Lori
Hi Lori,
I don't know Dr. O but I agree with you about how we allow people to treat us. Just because some one is a doctor does not give them the right to be disrespectful or rude.
There's a gal on the over 50's board who had a similar experience with a doctor in Atlanta and she just found another doctor to go to who treated her with respect and kindness. After she made the move she started doing very well and is now at goal and has been for some time.
Just remember, he's not the only fish in the sea! And he's not the only one that can teach you to swim. We don't have to be brow beaten to make this work for us. You know what you have to do. Have confidence in your self.
Please keep in touch, I'd really like to know the rest of your story!
Sharon
