Hospital Question

Can anyone tell me anything about St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg. I thought I was going to have my surgery at the Palms of Pasadena, but my insurance does not use that hospital. The reviews I've read on Obesityhelp.com are not good. I need to hear some good things or I'm going to become nervous. Thanks for listening to me vent. Take care and have a great weekend. Keke

Keke Santa here, I'm using Humana Gold Classic and Dr.Rehnke. I've been told were going to St.Petersburg General and have only read very good reviews. Dr.Rehnke's on the Board of Surgeons there and my PCP is the Referring Physican for St.Pete Gen. too. As I asked on my first consultation Dr.Rehnke spoke highly of St.Pete. Gen. Maybe you should ask about going there if your unhappy with what you've read of St.Anthony's.

Yeah, I'll ask about St. Anthony's when I go for the pre-op visit on the 13th. I think it has something to do with my primary care physician's network and Human HMO. We shall see. Thanks!

Oh one thing though it may push your surgery date back if you change hospitals or it may even move it up. Check with Rehnke's office. Mike

KeKe - I am curious who is your surgeon? I always thought the surgeon determined the hospital. These HMO's are really getting out of hand. Red

My surgeon is Dr. Ernest Rehnke out of St. Petersburg. I know he operates at Palms of Pasadena & St. Petersburg General as well as St. Anthony's. When his office called me Thurs. they said it would have to be at St. Anthony's/

I hope it all goes well for you and that you get to use the hospital that you wish. The quality of the hospital is an important factor in overall patient safety. Perhaps you could talk to your insurance company about using the other hospital, since it is on your plan.
