Saw surgeon today...low albumin
I had to fight to see my surgeon today. This is the appointment that I was suppose to have in May but that has been cancelled and rescheduled by her office 3x. We are in a hurricane warning so I called the office this morning before heading to the hospital to make sure they were still doing clinic. I was told they were. So I had another test done before my appointment (good news...the DVT appears to be gone!!!), so then I headed over to check in with the surgeon. It was 2 and my appointment was 2:30, but they tell me that mine was cancelled because they had to close by 3 and be out of the clinic by 5. I was sooo pissed...and calmly explained that this appointment has already been pushed back 3 times and that I have been having pain since June and really need to see the surgeon...and pointed out that my appointment is a half hour before they had to close....and that I had called and checked before coming down. They still weren't budging but then the surgeon came out and overhead me explaining that their rescheduling options were not acceptable since I know new patients have been seen while my appointments have been canceled, so they need to bump a new patient so I can see the surgeon sooner than next month. Well, the surgeon asked what was going on and told them that she would see me. But now I don't know why I wanted to see her so badly...I gained 11 lbs since March, which in March I had lost 9...so I am only 2 lbs higher than the first time I saw her. Well, she keeps saying...why do you keep gaining weight? If you keep gaining like this...., patients continues to gain most of her weight back. And l'm like what??? since when is 9 pounds most of 180???? She said if I keep gaining I'll have to re-do my sleep study because my apnea might return...I told her I was 330 during the last year that cleared me of sleep apnea. And I pointed out that I have hoovered between 330-350 for the past year...so I have not gained large amounts of weight. Then she tries and tell me that my albumin levels are low which indicates that I've been eating a low protein, high fat diet...I told her I don't know much about albumin, but I KNOW my diet is high in protein and average in fat.
Let's just say at this point I'm looking into the possibility of getting my insurance to cover my surgery back home in Ohio. I figure I can see my surgeon who did my open rny when I am home in October for a consult then get Henrietta (my hernia) repaired when I am home for Christmas. And I just check low albumin could be a result of other conditions.

So Sorry your appointment didn't go like you wanted. Sometimes the healthcare industry and doctors are just as insensitive and customer un-friendly as collection agencies LOL. If your heart leads you back to your surgeon in Ohio, then it is meant to be and have them do your Henrietta-ectomy. You have been patient and forthright, I have no doubt, you will make the right decision for you and your other appendage
!
Please keep us posted, Sarah!
