I had my EGD on Friday and they discovered a Hiatal Hernia. The Dr. said it is very common. Is this something that may hender my surgery? On a great note, I just found out on Saturday that my son and I have been selected for a Habitat for Humanity home. PRAISE GOD!!!!! This is a dream come true. Looks like my surgery will be put off a little longer than I expected. We begin building in 3 weeks.

I had a Hiatal Hernia for years prior to my surgery. The WLS surgery helped. As the stomach is now separated, I do not get the Acid reflux any more. I have no problems with the Hiatal hernia since my surgery. I believe if it needs repair at the time, if you have the open RNY, it can be fixed.

Hi Jen, I had a persistant hiatal hernia which was repaired several times prior to my laproscopic RNY, in fact just 6 mons prior. During my WLS my surgeon repaired it hopefully for last time along with my gallbladder being removed. I have not had reflux since and keep my fingers crossed it doesn't come back. I have been told it might but the EGD is not to hard to cope with and that was how I had it repaired 2 times prior to RNY. Good luck with your journey with WLS and your home.
