I would not have gone to Mexico if they paid ME.. There are some docs here that will do the payment plan... I just don't know of any in your area... Cyndee

What doctors do payment plans??? I would NEVER go to Mexico, just because if I had complications down the road, I want my doctor nearby so he can help me. Also, are you just looking for a good price without looking into credentials?

Ok my 2 cents I've heard of people and have met one lady who went to Mexico for the lap band, but never the RNY. It's true, if you had complications, God forbid, you'd have to find a doctor here willing to treat you after another doctor operated on you!! The good news - the first surgeon I saw last year actually handed out papers from Capital One - they will finance this surgery and even PS. The sheet even outlined amount borrowed and monthly payments. If you can afford to self pay - you may be able to handle the monthly payments to Capital One. Just another option I hope you'll look into! Carol

I know people go to Brazil for the DS all of the time and do fine. I know several people who have done it. Of course they were all using Dr. Marchesini who is a board certified surgeon, (in the US and Brazil) and the hospital is top notch. I do not know anything about Mexico. But there are some out of country options that are viable and safe. You are taking a risk when you go out of the country. But you minimize that risk by doing your homework and not just looking at price. Also you must find your own references for the doctor. Not just those that they provide you with. Where was the doctor trained, is he board certified in the country in which he practices, in this country, in any other country? Are these facts that can be checked? The possibility of complications occuring during or just after surgery is another thing one must consider. Is the facility where you will be having your surgery equipped to handle emergencies? Is it a well equipped hospital or a clinic or some sort of stand alone surgical center. Does the price you pay include extra days in the hospital should the need arise? There are so many things to consider besides price when one thinks about going out of the country for surgery. The link below will take you to the opening page of the "South of the Border" forum here on OH, from this page you can get to either the message board or a list of surgeons with reviews. I think you might find some of the information you are seeking there. Red http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/south-of-the-border/

If you are considering the gastric bypass and not the lap band, the usual stay in Monterrey for this procedure is 10 days, requiring a two night stay at the hospital. Most patients will be ready to go back to daily activities within two weeks and exercise within 1 month. The cost of the laparoscopic gastric bypass is $14,600 U.S. This price includes: Pre-op tests, Hospital, Surgical Team Physician fees, a consultation with our Nutritionist and transportation to and from the airport. For more information about Bypass surgery contact us and/or visit our website. It does not include your airfare and 7 nights of your hotel stay. · Facilities: The San Jose hospital is one of the premier hospitals in all of Mexico. In addition to ground breaking techniques and surgery of heart and brain, the surgical suites are all state of the art ? including the laparoscopic instrumentation and sterilization. And is very beautiful too
