Weight Loss has Slowed

I'm 7 months out and my weight loss has really slowed down. Between June and July I lost 8 pounds. Between July and August I lost 9 pounds. I am grateful that the scale is moving in the right direction! However, at this pace I won't reach my goal in the cherished 18 months that the surgery is suppose to be of most assistance. For those of you farther out than me has this been your experience? When did your weight lose slow down? I'm doing everything I've been told to do...eating all my protein, drinking 80+ oz of fluid a day, taking my vitamins, exercising...is it normal for the weight lose to slow. Will it pick up again? I didn't go through the surgery to still be fat 18 months later...although I'll be less fat! Any thoughts? Rhonda

Rhonda, Weightloss usually slows around the 6-month mark. If you check out the February 2005 forum, there's probably a lot of discussion about their weightloss slowing and the anxiety that causes. It does feel like you'll never loose it all, but if you follow the program it will come off! It is also common to feel like you're done losing at 11 or 12 months, but hang in there! Before you know it, you've lost another 10 pounds!!! Hang in there, Erika L

My loss is very slow now, at 11 months out, but that's ok. I've lost a lot more than I would have with diet alone and losing 8 or 9 lbs. a month is completely normal really. Jan

Rhonda, I am 14 months out and it seems like my weightloss really stopped significantly at about 11 months. I've managed to drop a couple pounds in the past two weeks, but had been stuck for almost two full months. There are a few ladies at work further out that me and they said they experienced that too, so I just keep plugging away and hope my body will decide to release some of my extra weight again soon. I still have about 50lb to lose and at this rate, it will take me longer than the infamous 18 months, but that is OK. This definitely beats the life I had before WLS!

Rhonda, I'm 7 months out today. My loss has also slowed down to 6 lbs last month. I was THRILLED with 6 lbs. I'd just spent 3 weeks visiting my family & attending my niece's wedding with all the parties & festivities that go with weddings. I would've been happy if I'd just stayed the same b/c I know I was eating more carbs than I usually do. But I tried to stay on track even though I didn't have a food scale to weigh my portions and I must've done a pretty good job to still lose those 6 lbs. But the biggest reason I was thrilled with my 6 lb loss was b/c before wls I couldn't lose 1.5 lbs a week no matter what I did. So don't be discouraged with an 8 lb. loss - that's 2 lbs a week - and when have you ever been able to do that in the past?? Everyone says our loss slows down around this time, but as long as we're still losing, I think we should just be thankful!!! In order to reach my goal weight in 1 year, I need to be losing about 2 lbs a week, so I do hope my losses go back up, but if not, I'll be thankful for what I have lost and how much healthier I am now, than I was 7 months ago!! Hang in there! Vickie J.
