Hi Terri , I had a hysterectomy in January of this year and also kept my ovaries...I agree with Sallykate ask if they think they can keep them...I use to have my period for 18 to 21 days at a time then approx 7 days off till the next...I had about a 4" incision across my pubic area..was somewhat painful the first day then I really started feeling pretty good pretty fast...good luck with the surgery you will be in our prayers.. APril

Terri, I had a complete hysto in 1998 and have not regreted it for one minute. In fact, I wish I done it 10 years sooner! I've had problems from the beginning (age 13) and at 15 my gyn predicted I'd have a hysto before I was 40. I made a liar out of him by 2 years, but sure wish I'd had it done the first time my doc recomended it. Pain isn't too bad, but I'd had to 2 c-sections so I sort of knew what was in store. It did take months to really get my energy back but the incision healed up quickly and I was back at work in 8 weeks. If you're have major problems with the ovaries you may not have the option of keeping them. I was surprised when my gyn suggested removing them, but when he asked me why I'd want to keep them (my cycles had become so erratic b/c the ovaries weren't functioning properly) and risk a 4th abdominal surgery (2 c-sections & the hysto + possible ovary removal later) a few years down the road if they got worse or became diseased. When he put it like that, I told him to take them. He put me on a hormone patch in the OR and after I got home, he changed me to hormone pills. It took us a few months of experimenting to find the right pill & dose for me. I was on them until my wls in January. At that time, I switched to the hormone patch and haven't had any problems. I wish you luck & hope all goes well. Vickie J.

I a sorry the Ablation did not work for you. It did for me 3 years ago. The dr did not want to do the hysterectomy due to my weight. I was wondering recenly if I need to revist that do see if I can get 2 surgeries in one. Would love to get the tummy tuck but Ins will not pay for it unless I can prove it is medical necessary. I wonder if having to tuck the excess in the jeans when I wear them would help my case.

Martha, Too funny!!! My MIL said something along those lines about having the dr remove any extra skin while he is down there. I will certainly ask about it- if he has to do an open procedure maybe he can take a few pounds off anyway. Terri
