Hell-o gang, I haven't been on the board in a while, I've been busy at work and not feeling to well. I had open rny on 6/13 and all went GREAT, I felt good and back to normal very quickly, no pain after I was home, next day out grocery shopping with my husband, I've lost 38 lbs, And felt on top of the world, not one thing to fuss about, but monday I wasn't able to eat or drink anything with out throwing it up and the pain was so bad in my chest, called the Doctor's office on wedseday and was instructed to go back to liquids for 3-4 days and to take my prevacid tablets, well it's better but I was scared to death that I had did something wrong. I follow the rules but what started this pain? Jerrie

Jen, Glad to hear that you are doing so well, As for the painful feeling, it's much better, I guess my pouch wasn't ready for Phase 5 (regular diet) I'm doing the liquid/soft mashed foods and feeling 99% better. Now if I could get my proteins in I'll be GREAT..... Jerrie

I wanted to ask after speaking to the doc's office - and today - how did you feel?? Are you feeling better? I think you did to much so soon and that caused a "warning" sign for you to slow down a bit. You had recent surgery and should take it easy. I remember when I was early out and was walking at a brisk past..I develop some nausea and dry heaves and it was painful...after slowing down the pace things started to subside. After that I took things slower. It takes at least 2 months or more to get things back to normal so don't ru**** even if you feel OKay. Good luck to you.

Jerrie, I have NO idea what could have started the pain! It must have been awful and I'm so glad you're feeling better now. This is NOT any criticism of your surgeon whatsoever, but this might be why my surgeon puts in a G-tube. I am assuming that you don't have one? I sort of wondered why he insists on that and keeping it in for so many weeks, but your post isn't the first I've read about pain like this and now I'm starting to understand a little better. (maybe) If your pain was caused by a horrible back up of gas, the G-tube would have relieved the pressure. If your pain was caused by pouchie acid (hence the Prevacid), the G-tube could continue to keep you nourished and hydrated. For those of us that have G-tubes after surgery, maybe we should be grateful, instead of thinking of it as just a pain. In the meantime, Jerrie, I hope you stay on the mending road. I was NOT saying anything against your surgeon (in fact, I've heard good things about him) and I hope this is the last of your difficulties. By the way, you're doing GREAT and congrats on your loss thus far!! Jan

Jan, Thanks for the reply, Dr.Nye and his staff are wonderful and very caring. I'm so very lucky to have them. I'm doing much better today, no more pain and doing well with the liquid/mashed foods. I guess the little pouch wasn't ready for advanced foods. The pain wasn't caused by gas, I was very lucky not to have had any problems with gas. It's just that solid's would not go down, no matter how small or how much I chewed. I did not come home with a G-tube, it was taken out at the hospital. But I will take baby steps and I'll be fine. Thanks again.... Jerrie

Jerrie, Glad you are feeling better. Our bodys tell us when they want us to slow down.. If we don't listen the scream louder. This is proablly what it was. You did the right thing by calling the doc. If it happens again, please don't hesitate to call him again. Kat
