Howdy folks, well I just got home again from another "haven't gone to bed yet" night! This should be the last for a long while though. My friend left this morning for a 33 hour flight to South Africa and I will not see her for a few years. We have been friends for about 10 years and have been through alot together!! I will miss her but I know it was "time". Our season is over for now and she is following God's path for her life. SO! How bout' you guys? Who was your very first best friend? Can you remember? Mine was a little girl named Angel. We were very young and friends from about age 3 til age 7 until I moved away to Canada. I think the only reason I can remember a friendship at that young of an age is because one evening while at her house we were swinging on her swing set. We were swinging as HIIIIIGH as we could go when all of the sudden the whole swing set tipped over and I fell face first in the dirt and the top bar of the S**** the back of my head. I blacked out! Needless to say, I was traumatized and afraid of swing sets the rest of my life! From that day forward, I always checked to see it the set was cemented into the ground b4 I would swing. My best friend is Stephanie. We met walking home from school I was in high shcool and she in Jr. High. (That was in the late 60's and we remain friends.) We only lived near each other a year but have stayed in touch and see each other when we can and at each meeting it is like we pick up where we stopped last time. I was "adopted" into her family; her dad fished with my dad and became a mentor for me when I needed a dad after my father died in 79. He also performed my wedding at my request. Stephanie is a RN but works with her husband now in the contracting business. She was by my side when I had my WLS surgery and stayed with me until I was "out of the fog" a few days later. We continue to love each other despite our shortcomings and have been able over the years to read each other like a book. We know when we need each other and have found that to be true over the years with the phone calls.

My best friend was Gail. We went thru so many "phases" together including a 1966 hot summer trip to Atlanta to see our "beloved" Beatles in concert. We had so many other things in common too. Thank God for good friends.

Thanks for such a great question of the day Sallykate. I met my best friend on the first day of Kindergarten many, many years ago. I remember we had the same bunny fur jackets with a hood in the second grade, and people often mistook us for sisters. We have remained friends over the years, and Donna was the first person to drop everything 13 years ago and come to my aid when my first husband was murdered. She was also my maid of honor when I remarried 3 years later, and to this day, we are the best of friends. Since she suffers from MS, and I suffer from morbid obesity, our visits are limited these days, but she will be the first person I fly to see when I reach my goals! Donna remained in our childhood town of Cedar Grove in NJ, and I flew the coop and came to Florida 17 years ago. 47 years later, we are still best friends, and distance will never keep us apart!!

Hey there SallyKate, cool question! My best friend and I, well our parents were friends before we were even born! Does that make us destined? Don't know but we've been best of friends ever since and its been a long time since we even refered to ourselves as friends, we've been closer than sisters for as long as I can remember! Even my son calls her "Tia" (spanish for aunt). We've been thru so much together, even more than my true blood sisters and family...I don't know what I'd do without her!
