Cindy- please try Dr Aranow in Middletown- Middlesex is awesome and he is the best of the best. I think the phone number is 860-347-9167, you will have to re-do a few things- like the psych eval- he only accepts one of two people and the nutritionist- but if you can get your other records together you might be able to jump ahead as far as not having to go to a seminar if you explain your problem- everything happens for a reason. I don't necessarily find Medicare's new ruling to be a bad thing- I think they are just following many of the major insurers as far as trying to make sure that their money is being well spent and their consumers are getting the best care possible. It is too bad they gave little to no notice on changing the policy. But that's the federal government for you.

hi,i tried dr.anarow first but who ever i talked to on the phone said i would have to start all over as a new patient,,i just cant do that,i an too far gone now,,i went yesterday to have my releases signed to fax over all my paper work because danbury said they would take me at the standings i am in now,so all i need to do is consult with surgeon and mandatory consult and physical, which they put me in for all in same day.dr.anarow was indeed my first choice, but unfortunately, the girl in the office told me i have to begin whole entire process over,so i really have no choice,,i appreciate your advice though, thanks so much for everything,,i will definetely keep you posted..love,cyndee

Cynthia, I'm so sorry about what has happened to you. It is good you have decided to go ahead to another facilitly. I'm sure this time things will go as planned. I had to change hospitals myself. I was in a hospital waiting to have my surgery and my doctor didn't show up I was there many hours, till supper time with out any word of when he would be starting my surgery. I went home, I never heard from him or the hospital., I never got an explaination from him or an appology,so I began the process at St Francis in Nov 2005. I am meeting with Dr. Barba 3/9/2006 , as I have finished all my required tests ect.. I can really sympathize with you, be persistant, keep positive and things will happen. It will be worth all the time and effort you have put in. Keep us updated on your progress. Also I have only heard good things about Danbury hospital. All my best to you. Sher L

Cynthia, here's the scoop: Please don't blame Dr. Barba. Basically medicare made the decision to allow continued coverage for WLS but only at centers of excellence. Their policy decision went into immediate effect and we surgeons had no warning. Medicare is currently considering revising their policy so that maybe those caught in midstream like you wouldn't have to go elsewhere. But that policy has not been adopted yet. It was a near thing that medicare was even considering dropping coverage for wls entirely in some patients so it is fortunate that you still have coverage. As for my policy- I would not make you start from "scratch". However, I would insist you recieved the fulleducational program, dietary workup and psych eval through my program. You need to understand that our philosophies regarding surgical technique and aftercare are different from other surgeons including Dr. Barba. You would not need to repeat any medical testing however. You would be working with our team for the rest of your life (or at least my professional life) and both you and I wopuld like to know that we're the "right fit". If you would like to try to join our program make sure to ask for Staci, Vanessa, or Lois when you call: 860-347-9167. If not, then be comfortable in knowing that this new policy of requiring you get your care at a Center of Excellence, like our program and Danbury's, means a safer and more successful outcome wherever you go. Best of Luck- Dr. J. Aranow

Dr.Anarow, thank you for explaining this whole mess to me,i am in no way blameing dr.barbas office,i just wish i was told when they found out,it has been difficult for me,and being with all my medical issues,i want the problem solved like most,as soon as possible,my goal is to lose the weight, maintain a healthier lifestyle and most definetely return to work.i am registered with a work program that has me on the back burner untill i can get this resolved,so i am just a little more anxious than most ,i guess.i have never met dr.barba, but i just adore dr.giovanni and am terribly dissapointed that i needed to go elsewhere,i guess i just really needed to vent, eveyone does now and then,,thank you so much for talking the time to explain your side of this,i will keep you in mind as soon as i figure out what is what.thank you very much,,cyndee
