6 month visit with Dr. Bell
Hi all,
I had my 6 month visit with Dr. Bell last week. I am officially down 60 lbs. He is pleased, but, as you all know, I wanted it to be more! He feels that I'm on track, but I feel like I'm in a "holding" pattern.
I know part of the problem is that I haven't been exercising. Here goes my excuses: I work 2 jobs, I am the conservator for my elderly aunt, who has been in and out of the hospital over the past month (in fact is back in again now), and I just don't have the get up and go that I have in warmer weather. I did buy an exercise video and did it a few times. My treadmill is a great dust collector. So, I need a kick in the pants, and that's why I'm here. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME TO GET MOTIVATED AGAIN!

I too need that kick in the pants...
I woke up this morning (after spending all day yesterday amping myself up to go back to the gym today) and I said... "oh it's Monday... I will start the gym on Tuesday".
Then I went in to get my work clothes and there were my gym clothes.... SO! I grabbed them and they are sitting right next to me right now. I will change as soon as I am done with work and off I go.
You can do it.... we always feel good after we work out.. it is just getting there and doing it!!!
So here is your kick!!!!

COngrats on the GREAT weight loss. Listen to Dr. Bell as he tells you that you are right on target and DONT beat yourself up !!!!....just think..where you were last year, and where you would be if you didnt have this wonderful gift that Dr. Bell gave you last July. Remember what else you got out of it too..a bunch of new friends (who by the way missed you last time we had a meeting and you coudnt got wif us to eat) ..are you going to Linda's this weekend for the shower?????
It is hard to get motivated in the winter..i am having the same problem. But what you can do is do little things for now..park far away at the grocery store.....while you are sitting at your desk, do some kind of leg lifts or something..there is plenty to do without fully exercising...when it gets a little warmer, you give me your schedule and maybe me..you chryssie and whomever else wants to join(maybe Heather and the baby) we can all go walk somewhere!!!!

JA, I am not on the losing side as of yet but I think about afterwards what my difficulties will be and what your going through is one of them. I went back and read your journey entries. Today you sound a bit frustrated and in your Journey entries you sounded uplifted and ready to take on the world. Why don't you read your journey again and maybe you will feel motivated as I did when I read it. Hang in there and dust off that treadmill

Hi JA,
First, congratulations on your weight loss! You are doing fine.
I also always have a problem with exercise! I have been doing it pretty much everyday since the new year started, but I can't say I really enjoy it too much.
I started finally because my weight loss has stopped, and I don't want it to be stopped. I made a committment to myself when I had this surgery to become healthier, and more active. I am healthier, for sure. The more active part not as much, until recently. But I started feeling like I was letting myself down but not doing what I need to do. I sat with those feelings for a month or so, and then just decided that's it, I need to do this for myself because this is my last chance to lose all the weight.
How will I feel when my window of opportunity has closed, and I didn't do what was necessary??
Kathy K. started her exercise log around the same time, and I decided to post on her log what I do for exercise. Mine is always less than everyone else's, but I am doing it.
Good luck with your motivation. You can do it!

If you figure out the secret to being motivated, please let me know. Although I have been successful (for the most part) in canging my eating habits, our tool does not provide motivation for exercise. It is important to truly be successful, but easy to be skipped! Good luck and listen to Dr Bell, you are doing GREAT!!!!

I know it is not easy to motivated for excercise. You will try to make time for yourself to excercise start slowly start at ten min or 15 min then build up more after that. That is why I put Kathy's Excercise log to help me track my excercise daily to stick my motivate for excercise and Also I have a trainer who always email me to check on me if I did excercise at home which I cannot lie her. She will know if I lied her! SMILE Try to find buddy to walk with you or excercise togehter in your house or her house for half hour better than nothing!! Come to join to track your excercise on my log and I will help you to stay motivate for excercise SMILE! You can do it ! Hope to see you at Heather s baby shower party!

Congratulations on your weight loss. That is great success.
It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now and I can see how it would be hard to schedule in exercise when all you want to do is probably rest whenever you can. I would dust off the treadmill and try and figure out three times a week that you can hop on. A little bit goes a long way. You can do it. Maybe you can rotate the treadmill workout with the exercise tape. It is amazing how good it feels when you get back into the habit of exercising.

. You are doing just great and being hard on yourself but we all certainly understand that being hard on ourselves is what we do. I know you have a ton of things going on but I also know that you are so busy doing for everyone else that you don't do for you. So hear this lady. Prioity number ONE is YOU!!! You won't be good to anyone else if you aren't well and functioning at your best. So I will be seeing you soon and I will give you a real kick but for now I am challenging you to find a half and hour every day for yourself. Do some kind of exercise everyday even if it it is something simple. Then add the additional exercise workouts that you have been talking about. Join the Y or the gym and you will go. Somehow paying for something is often a motivation enough to start going regularly and then you will find that you just don't feel right if you don't go. I am not saying it will be easy. Quite the opposite but trust me girlfriend it is sooooo worth it. Yes it will help in the weight and inches lost but it will also make you feel sooooo much better. Let's talk more and maybe we can figure out a way to be a more regular support.
