OT: Physical Test for PD
Ok good news and bad news.
First I was able to do the obstacle course whi*****luded climbing the 5 1/2 ft wall, running a marked course and then dragging the 150 lb dummy 32 ft, all in under 2 mins 30 secs. I did all of that. Yeah me! There was only 1 other female in our group of 20. She and I both finished the obstacle course withen the time frame. There were males who were unable to get over the wall.
Now on to the run. I went out to the test knowing that I probably wouldnt pass the run as I have been battling a toe injury since October. I have not worked on my running much. The run was 500 yds in less than 2 mins. I ran solid for the first 250 and made the turn at 1 min. I was the last one but there were a few slow runners not too far ahead. But I was outta gas. So unfortunately, I did not pass the physical. The positive note is now I know what I will have to do to pass.
So on Friday my trainer and I will set up a gameplan. I can reapply and test again in July. I will be ready and I will pass the run. I know that with work it will happen. The officer that walked back with me did say that I did well on the obstacle course and my time was right in the mix with the males. Unfortunately I was the worst runner. He did suggest that I go take the written test early so I can work on getting the highest score I possibly can. He was good about encouraging to work on the run and reapply and come back in July. At least I wasnt laughed off the track.
Thank you to all the positive thoughts. This is not the end of this journey. It is merely the beginning. I can do this. I will do this.

KUDO'S TO YOU GIRL, I THINK YOUR AMAZING. YOU MAY NOT HAVE PASSED IT THIS TIME BUT I GOT TO TELL YOU I THINK IT'S AWESOME THAT YOU EVEN TRIED AND DID AS WELL AS YOU DID. LIKE YOU SAID YOU CAN TAKE IT AGAIN IN JULY AND I HAVE A FEELING KNOWING YOUR WEAK POINTS YOU WILL WORK ON THEM AND PASS THE NEXT TIME WITH FLYING COLORS. IN MY OPINION YOUR A WINNER FOR EVEN TRYING THIS.
MAKE SURE YOU REMIND ME THE NIGHT BEFORE THE NEXT ONE SO I CAN SAY A PRAYER AND SEND THE POSITIVE VIBES YOUR WAY.
HAVE A WONDERFUL EVENING AND AN EVEN BETTER TOMORROW.

Many thanks sweet Jodi, you are always here cheering everyone on. I know I can pass this I jsut need to do it. Thank you for your positive thoughts. When I was pulling up over the wall it was nice to have perfect strangers clapping and hollering for me. It was quite rewarding knowing where I have come from and where I managed to get. I cant wait to be able to post that I not only passed the physical test but that I am on my way to being a police officer.
Thanks again
Carrie
I think its great that you even put yourself out there to do it in the first place! Good for you for trying, and doing so well! Just because you didn't pass one part doesn't mean that you didn't do a good job. Before surgery, did you have this goal? Good luck next time, it sounds like you're going to do wonderfully!

Thank you Donna,
Actually way back when (20+) graduating from HS I was going to go in the Air Force but was talked out of it. I Regretted not going in for years. I spent many years being a stay at home mom which I wouldnt trade for the world ( except that being home and 3 babies close together contributed to the weight gain) but I still had wanted to do something in public service for a long time. When I finally went back to work after staying home with the boys I was way out of shape and needed to get to work in a hurry as I left their father at that time. Now that I am 5 years out from surgery I am ready to do something that makes me feel like I am helping in the community. I know now what I need to do to get past the run and I am determined to pass the physical. I definitely was one of the older candidates today but I still managed to stay in the mix of the male times for the obstacle couse. Those darn young guys kicked my butt in the run though.
I hope all is going well with your pregnancy. We are all praying that all continues to go well.

Shells,
Although I wish I had passed I am not disappointed because I tried. I made it over a 5 1/2 ft wall. Who does that? I RAN an obstacle course that had twist and turns and then you had to jump over a sawhorse. Then I dragged a 150lb dummy 32 feet. If you think about it the 150 is about 30 lbs more than I lost. So I was actually dragging my own old self over that finish line. I did it. I fully expect to pass in July and when I do you can bet that I will share with everyone here.
Thanks for your positive thoughts. Good vibes going out to you for tomorrow.

Thank you Ms Janine,
The toe injury did play a critical role. I should have bit the bullet sooner and pushed through with the needed training. My toe actually didnt even come into play today. I am so ready to buckle down and do what needs to be done to make it happen. I so enjoy coming here and getting the support I need.
