Hello Cali peps! I just wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Lola and I am in the process of being approved for lap RNY.  I had my initial consult and I am currently waiting for my referral to the psych and nutritionist.  It has taken me six years to come to be brave enough to go to my PCP for a referral.  So, here I am waiting and hoping that this is going to be a smooth ride.  I have a few quesitons?   What is the best way to prepare for this journey? Dieting? Pre Op diet? Vitamins?  Also, I am a single mom to a very active two year old, how long should I plan for someone to care for him after I have surgery?  That is all for now, just thought I would introduce myself and I hope to become an active member of this board.  THanks,  Lola

to OH and the Cali board Lola!! You are going to love it here! It is a great place for support, WLS education, and GREAT friends! And don't be afraid to ask any questions because the only stupid question is the unasked one!!  These are some of the things that I did preop to prepare myself... use a small plate use small utensils start practicing not drinking with meals and waiting 30 minutes after start practicing chewing slowly and well start practicing sipping water all day practice eating slower start tracking food in one of the online diary websites start taking at least a multi vitamin (I also started on B-100s, Biotin, and I took milk thistle *which helps defat the liver) start an exercise routine of some kind cut out junk food, try not to have danger foods in your house at all, replace them with healthier choices like fruits, cheese, nuts, etc That should get you started. Not quite sure how to answer about the help with your wee one, but I'm sure someone with younger kids can help you on that one. I do know you will need to be careful with lifting for fear of hernias!  I hope your wait for approval and a surgery date is not a long one!! May God bless your journey!!!   BTW, I LOVE your avatar, it ROCKS!!!!!   big hugs, Becky

Hi Lola and welcome. Becky did a great job on the first part. Maybe I can help with the other. My daughter was just turning 2 when I had surgery. Luckily I had some help from my DH and my Mom. My inlaws kept her the first night I was home, then I had ALOT of help for the next several days. I tried not to pick her up for 2 weeks. I would sit down on the couch and have her come to me. I heal quickly though as I was also back to work in a week and a half. You may want to ask your surgeon what they think. My 2 cents is give yourself 2 weeks of some good help. Good luck to you on your journey. Looking forward to getting to know you. Sue
