I dont have any personal info about the doc, but do know that Dr. Rex Luttrell can no longer practice in any hospital in Little Rock. Soooo, w/that said, Id stay away from him.
I used Dr. John Baker, whom I personally think walks on water!!!! His pre-care is great, but his post op care is PHENOMENAL!!!! And I think you will get the same opinion from all of his patients. He is firm, might come across as mean or hateful. I think it should be translated into ULTRA CONCERNED for his patients and their well being.
But you must be comfortable w/whoever you choose. Welcome to our little spot in the world on the Arkansas board. We are here for you no matter who you choose. Our main goal here is support and encouragement and some occasional booty kicking when needed.
Good luck, and come back and play soon,
Rhonda D.

Holy smokes!!!!! I wonder what happened? Dr. Luttrell did my gall bladder removal back in 2000 - he was in a general surgery group in the Hickingbotham Outpatient Center then, and I thought he was great... things sure do change!
I am relieved to hear/read so many favorable opinions of Dr. Baker, though. I have a co-worker who had RNY by him last March, and she adores him, too.

When I did all my research as a pre-op on surgeons, I found out what happened easy enough.
I know Dr. Luttrell is one of the ones that pays to advertise on here, so I don't know how much they will allow said without the post being removed. (I lurk on various boards and I know sometimes surgeons who advertise here will have posts removed if it says anything negative about them.)
Just as a general statement....
Hospitals tend to frown on it when you do WLS on someone and they die, then you (and the hospital) get sued for your incompetence and the only thing that saves your behind is a legal technicality (such as which state law's statute applies since the patient was from another state, or whether or not the surviving spouse really has the RIGHT to sue because they haven't officially been named as the executor of the estate).
I would recommend ANYONE researching WLS surgeons do a simple GOOGLE search with the words:
malpractice
arkansas
Luttrell (or whatever surgeon you want to use here)
You may have to add a first name to narrow your search. (For instance, there is a medical malpractice lawyer in Arkansas named Baker. So you have to put in the John, etc. But I can save you some time on Baker. You won't find anything if you do look.)

My personal opinion is skewed by the fact that Dr. Baker is who did my aunt's surgery. She chose him because she's been a nurse FOREVER and when she asked other NURSES who they would have do their surgery, the consensus was Dr. Baker. She loved him. I went to his seminar/class, etc and I loved him. I used him and like Rhonda, I think he walks on water. I have the utmost faith, trust and respect for him. (He is also going to do my mother's RNY and my cousin's lapband if she can get approved.)
Now for FACT that is NOT skewed by my feelings about Dr. Baker. When they called surgeons from all over the country to demonstrate the new Realize band, for the "first draft", they brought in only the best surgeons from each state - surgeons with the lowest complication rates and highest follow-up and success rates. (Makes sense since they want their product looking good for the first patients getting it. They don't want f-up surgeons giving it a bad name right off.) Dr. Baker and Dr. Gibbs were the ONLY 2 surgeons in the entire state of Arkansas to get invited to the first round draft.
If I had this to do over again, I would pick Dr. Baker again every day of the week. If he were to fall off the face of the earth (I feel like I should cross myself after saying that.) and was no longer available, I'd pick Dr. Gibbs. If he were to fall off the face of the earth, I'd go somewhere out of state probably.
