Eat and drink at the same time?
Hi, I am new to this site, and I have to say you all look wonderful! Now my question is, I am 10 months out, 110 pounds lighter, and now can drink 20-30 min after i eat. Will i ever be able to eat and drink at the same time again? I really miss it with certain foods, or just at different times..
What can you guys tell me from your own experiences? Thanks in advance.
Hi Kristy,
Welcome to the Nov 2006 boards...we're a talkative group here!!
Honestly I eat and drink at the same time and have from the beginning. I don't drink a lot but I just can't eat without just a few sips of water. It depends on what I'm eating too, sometimes I am fine not to have any liquids other times I really do need it. Other times I think I'm fine and 10 minutes after I'm done eating I'm dying of thirst.
Sorry...all of that probably didn't help in the least...but it's my experience

I do not drink while eating and I do wait 30 minutes to drink after a meal. My surgeon says ----> If you drink when you eat - you are pushing the food through faster - which will allow you to consume more calories.
I thought I was goingto have the hardest time with this *change* but thankfully. It hasn't bothered me.
Congrats on your 110 pounds
hugs,
Britt
I have always been a big drinker while I eat (pre op that was). Sometimes if I am eating something like chicken I absolutely have to have a sip of water or the food just gets stuck. I limit it to a sip though. Over all, I have become accustomed to not drinking while eating. That is one rule of the pouch that has become a HABIT for me. Now if I could do as well with other rules maybe I could get to goal!

I wait an hour after meals before I drink. I have never heard any doctor or nutritionist say anything other than to wait--some say 30 minutes, others say an hour (or even 2). I think the only time you can drink with meals is if you become severly underweight and need to gain. I'm pretty positive that will never apply to me.
You know Wanda, that always made me wonder, if you drink while eating, and it washes through faster, how does that help you gain weight? I just don't get that. My docs told me to drink with meals because I need to gain, but I think it just takes the food out of the area where we absorb that much faster. I know I'm a special case (ya, what a case! LOL!), so I don't recommend doing what I do. I essentially don't follow any of the WLS eating rules. And it makes me very nervous for if I ever have a revision how I will eat afterward.

Britt is right. With the food being flushed out of the pouch there is no restriction. You can eat like a normal person--which is a good thing for you. But it would have disasterous results for me.
I'm glad to see you are feeling better. Your getting your sense of humor back so I know you are feeling better!
