Just Found You! New to the board...
Wow! Who knew a surgery date board existed! Im thrilled!
I had distal RNY on Nov 21st. I had some complications that landed me back in the hospital for a week long stay over New Years. It seemed it took a REALLY long time for my new stomach to heal. I spent 4 months post-op vomiting and dry heaving daily, making even water difficult to get down. Lets not even talk about protein and vitamins! Ive only been recently cleared to swallow pills. So I am now getting more protein and vitamins in me than I have in the first few months...but still need to step it up. The protein drinks are just AWFUL and my new tummy does not settle well with them. I get about 1/2 down before feeling nauseous.
I started at 346 and am now down to 235. I am just now starting to feel energetic and healthy again.
Im looking forward to reading what others 6 months post op are going through also, and getting to know you!

Staci,
Welcome to the board...everyone here is SO great and it's been wonderful having such a supportive group of people to chat with on a regular basis!
Congratulations on your weight loss, you're doing great. It sounds like you've had a rough road but hopefully it's getting a little easier.
For me I started at 292 and this morning I'm at 180 for a total of 112 pounds lost. I had lap RNY proximal on Nov 10th. I take an adult chewable multi vitamin, B12 sublingual (500mg), powdered B50 complex, 2 iron supps and 1000mg of calcium everyday. I get approximately 70 grams of protien a day. I know what you mean about finding a protien that works for you...I've tried so many and have only found a few that I can handle. I'm sure you are paying attention to this but how much sugar is in your drink? You might check sugar alcohals too because some people can't handle even those...their bodies react to sugar alcohals the same way as regular sugar. I personally put my protien powder in a latte...the milk adds extra protien and the coffee masks the flavor and oder (the smell almost gets me more than the taste) of the protien. So if you like coffee, and can handle milk, that's a way to go. Speaking of milk you might not be able to deal with lactose anymore too...my friend who had surgery can't drink milk at all anymore and she was never lactose intolerant before.
Anyway, hope to hear more from you and welcome!!

Welcome to the board Staci!!!!
The people on this board are wonderful and it is great to have others that are in the same stage. Yesterday was my 6 month surgiversary, I am down from 309 to 199 for a total of 110 pounds. Woo Hoo!!!! I have had minimal complications. Back in February I had a stricture and ulcers but all is well now. Other than that everything has been fairly "normal" for a wls person, I guess. LOL... I do deal with a lot of "not wanting" to eat beacuse food just is not appealing to me, but I do my supplements to make sure I am getting my protien and all that stuff in. I rarely eat with the family anymore, just because nothing healthy sounds good to me, so I have a supplement... I need to go grocery shopping I think... I have a feeling that is the big problem, that there is no variety in the house and I don't have the money to go shopping... You know food banks are not wls friendly... LOL.. they are loaded with pasta and carbs...
Well, Congrats on your weight loss!!! Glad you found our wonderful board here... hope to see you posting frequently...

Hello and Welcom Staci! We are glad you found us. As everyone said previously, we have a great group here so feel free to ask anything you may want to know. Usually someone has an answer or at least knows where to go to get the answer. Congratulations on your 111 lb weight loss. It sounds like you really have struggled the first few months so hopefully you have turned the corner and things will get "easier" from here on out.
I started my journey at 348 and was 332 on day of surgery. I am now 258 as of this morning. We started close to the same weight but you have surpassed me on the weight loss. I am very lucky and have had no complications or problems. I know this is wrong but sometimes I wish that I didn't tolerate things so well. I can eat almost anything. I stay away from sugar of course but Carbs are my downfall. I try very hard not to eat them but they go down sooooo well! I can eat about 3-4 oz of chicken or fish but, If I let myself, I bet I could eat a whole cup of mashed potatoes or mac and cheese! I am a true carb addict and will forever have to use self control on this issue.
Anyway, glad to have you and hope to hear from you often. Valorie
