Topic: RE: OMG, when will it end?!?!
Hey guys. We are all going to start seeing more of this because for most patience it happens between 3-6 months. The general reason is that your body is getting less nutrients than before and has the choice to either feed your organs that are life sustaining or your hair and nails. Guess which it has chosen to let go! You guessed it. The good news It will grow back! the bad news there is no data on what really works. Our Dr. recommeds being sure you are getting your 65 g min of protein. your multi vitamin 2x's a day and 300mg of biotin. Also I am a hairstylist and I can tell you the nioxin treatment does work. The shampoo and cond just prep the scalp for the treatment so they are not as important. If you find the starter pack the treatment is the 3rd part of the system in the box. Now this does not mean your hair will not fall out anymore but from my exper. i have seen stimulated growth. meaning that the hair you do have including the regrowth will grow faster with the treatment portion of the starter pak. hope this helps!
I use only a pick to comb my hair and do not hilite for the time being. and will be getting that sassy cut to go along with my new sassy body and outlook!
email if you have questions.

I'm having the same problem, it's getting worse and worse. Pre~op it was falling out (not this bad tho) and I related that to the Insulin Resistance, now I'm Post~op and it's getting worse!
I don't understand! I take 3000mg of Biotin a day and just started Nioxin shampoo and cond.

I have a theory that it is not enough fat in your diet that causes hair loss. I notice everyone really cutting down and having low fat everything. Maybe we should be sure to have some fats (at least a tablespoon a day like Weigh****chers says), especially if we are not eating much red meat.
I also have heard that our bodies absorb animal proteins better than soy or plant proteins (like protein drinks). I am 2 mos post-op and I haven't lost any hair. One of my co-workers even commented that my hair looks thicker (I have very fine hair to begin with). I only eat real foods, no protein drinks (I can't stand them).
I also think when we cut down our calories and fats so extremely low, our bodies move into starvation mode and start holding back on losing weight as well. When I read how very little most of us are eating, I think that perhaps it is just not enough to keep us losing. Not that I am an expert on this or anything. But I DO have expert EXPERIENCE as a dieter...I have been on them all my life (and I am 53)! My first diet was a low calorie diet prescribed my my doctor when I was 8 years old!! I had to lose 10 lbs over the summer. That was the beginning of the end for me!
Topic: RE: 3 month update
Dear Tami,
Thank you for your post. My surgery was on the 15th, so I am just a couple of weeks ahead of you and my starting BMI was about 66, so that was close as well. I was getting a bit discouraged by my 3 lbs. a week average loss thinking that I am working awfully hard (exercise and diet) for just 3 lbs. Being as large as I am, I thought it would come off faster. So it is good to read someone who has some similarities losing at about the same rate.
Thanks,
Sally

Oh you have my sympathies
A month ago, it seemed like chunks of my hair were coming out. Almost as bad as my husband's! I just had to tell myself that at least it'll come back (while my husband's won't). Not that it was much of a comfort.
I've upped my protein from about 70 to about 95-99 g and I take 5mg Biotin every day and it *seems* to be a little better. Or perhaps I'm just kidding myself.

Remember that surgery and anaesthesia can also cause hair and skin changes. Keep up with your protein. Your hair willgrow back This is a traumatizing occurance for all,but especially us girls. Good luck.

Well, first it started off as a small mouse. Then a large hampster. Then a gerbil. Then a guinea pig. Now a small cat. Tomorrow, a long haired chihuaha.
You gettin the point?
MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT!!!!!! Seriously, the drain in my
is getting fuller and fuller, as my
is getting thinner and thinner. Protein Shmotein. I get in at least 70 grams a day. What the heck?!?!? Anyone else having this issue? Anyone have any suggestions? I've heard that biotin helps, and to up the vitamins and protein.... is there really any proof to this?
