Topic: RE: Six month anniverseries
I cant believe its been 6 months already! The time has gone really fast...
I had surgery 10-6-04, and to date, have lost 96 lbs. I am very greatful that I was able to have this surgery, as it has just totally changed my life. I'm down to what I weighed right after high school. And, I now love to exercise. I still have problems, sometimes, getting in all my liquids, protein, and supplements -- but I am doing good. I'd like to lose about another 40-50 lbs, but would actually be happy right where I am, if I never lose anything else.
CONGRATS on everyone else's weight loss!
Susan

Topic: Back to reality. please!
Well, its Monday and after the weekend I had, I need to get back to it or I will soon enough become what I was prior to surgery.
Bare with my vent.
I havent be able to move forward with foods as "normal" In fact, I still eat mostly soft things like tuna, egg, yogurt cheese, and more recently chicken cut up smaller than tuna.
Anyway, I have learned this weekend that I can tolerate too much sugar. I ate chocolate, some of my daughters birthday cake, lemon pie, diet pop, potato chips, and probably a few more no no's.
Im disgusted by my self. I'll admit, I was an emotion wreck. It was my daughters 7th birthday, some ppl bailed at the last minute, my bf of 12 years moved to London for work and ended up not being able to afford to come here for her birthday. I miss him terribly. As do the kids. I cried most of the weekend, then ate something bad. Mind you, it was all small amounts. (Except the chocolate, I had to own it, I had an entire pouch of mini eggs- like 200 cals, 9g of fat!)
Feel free to put me in my place. I cant believe I would blow it so bad. Ive been given such a gift but felt so deprived that I binged. Almost hoping I would dump.
In my wls papers, theres a section about how we really have no control over our pouch in the first 6 months. We would lose regardless of what we do. Its when we hit the 6 month mark that we actually have to apply what we know to be successful. I really thought I had a handle on it but this weekend proved different.
So, today, I am back at it. Protein first, marking down everything I eat. I think I will even keep an online diary to post around here to keep me honest.
Emotional eating was a big one for me. Apparently it still is.
Any advice?

Yes!!! I am also 5 months post op, and I have lost a lot of hair, so I just cut it all off, colored it and it looks great!! not saying that you should do that but that was my remedy.. there's not much you can do about it, but wait it out.. it'll stop soon-- at least that's what they say at my surgeon's office.... lets keep our head up!!! we have too, we'll keep losing hair (hahahaha)
Topic: RE: hair loss???
Oh yes I also have been losing hair for the last 3 months. I am lucky because I have real thick hair and it is a bit more managable now. It still falls out but at a much slower rate now. Take care, Janice

Topic: RE: OCTOBER ROLL CALL
10/29/04 surgery date for me. I'm 5'3" and started at 307#. Weight as of this morning was 234.5, for a total of 72.5 pounds lost. I started at a BMI of 54 and am now 41--that's "super" obese to now "only" morbidly obese.
I am horrible with water intake, though I find that if I do the water thing like I'm supposed to I see a weight loss the VERY NEXT day--and that is EVERY time. Weird, huh? Who knew?
I do really, really well with protein, as I refuse to eat anything that doesn't contain signif protein. I do eat a Hershey's Kiss here and there or other similar "bad" things, but today I eat 2 or 3 instead of a whole flippin' bag of them. I'm good with it--keeps me sane. My primary doc agrees (so THERE, Nutritionist Nazis!)
I haven't really begun an exercise program, either, though I certainly don't avoid MOVING now like I did. The exercise thing is my main failure so far.
So pleased to hear that everyone is doing so well. Keep on pluggin'!
