Soda anyone?
Hi Cristi-I am drinking Diet Pepsi. When I went to my four month post op appointment I was told that I could drink any diet soda if I could tolerate it. So far I have not had any problems what so ever. However, I must tell you that many people are told not to drink anything with carbonation. I would go by what your doctor tells you. Take care, joyce
At my three month visit I was told I could have soda. Now, my nutritionist recommends the light colored ones (diet sprite) because he says the dark ones can strip calcium from your bones over time.....or something like that......maybe make it so you don't absorb it as well.......anyway, it has to do with calcium absorbtion and I have heard that from other sources before also.
I do drink diet coke although I try not to overdo it.

I am...but in much moderation compared to before. (Maybe one 20-ouncer every 3 days or so) I shake it and put it in the freezer for awhile to help get some of the air bubbles out. I belch like crazy when I drink it though. Small tiny sips!!! Oh--and it HURTS going down!
I wish I hadn't tried it because sometimes I think it slows my weight loss down --- fills your intestines up with air and takes awhile to come out other than belching! My doctor and nutritionist do not recommend drinking any pop until 6 months out...(I have been drinking it for at least a month and a half)....go figure...that is when I started plateauing!!

Absolutely not!!! Way too painful for me. I feel like my stomach is about to explode after more than one tiny sip. It's probably better that I don't start up that habit again anyway. I'll bet that Dr. Pepper alone was responsible for at least 50+ pounds of my excess weight. I don't miss it though.

Me either, I have no desire to get into that habit again, diet or otherwise. My doctor discourages it but I have heard so many reports of drinking soda making you hungry and eating more and I totally believe it. It doesn't curb your thirst, it just makes you want more. I won't touch it. I stopped drinking soda almost 2 months before surgery and I never felt better so I won't touch it again.
I drink about the same amount as you! I used to be a big Diet Coke drinker before surgery. I could probably put away a 2-liter everyday!
I have noticed that when I quit drinking it I usually lose a lot of weight real fast. All the sodium in pop makes anyone retain water! I lost 12 pounds during my first week of Weigh****chers in 2003 -- I attribute that to quitting cold turkey!
