How much weight loss at five months?!!!
Okay ladies.....I want a reality check. I went into surgery weighing 244.
I am now 181.5 as of today's weigh in. This means I have lost 62.5 pounds. I wi**** was more......I am shooting for 145 as my goal weight. The ideal weight on the weight planner says I should be 138.
However, I think this is a little low to be honest. I still need to lose about 36.5 to be at my goal weight.
Is this about normal? Should I expect more....it seems like I have been in the 180's forever!
Let me know. Give me a reality check please!
YES as mary jo said you started on the lighter side.
THE closer we get to goals the weight comes off slower.
BUT you SLO is probably healthier for us in the long run.
GIVES us time to tone up what where looseing.
SINCE i hit 100 lbs gone (but remember i started at 310, and lost
25 pre op as a requierement to have the surgery) i am looseing much
slower. MOST probably too because the weight i plan to stop is
proly around the 150 - 160 range. SO being near that goal its gonna come off slower and safer. I lost 10 lbs last month and im happy with that, sure its less then the first months but its still losses NOT GAINS!
I think your doing great.
YOUR useing your tool
perfectly!
HANG in there we will make our goals!
WE are not out of the honeymoon window yet.
SURE it gets hard when the weight slows down
but we have to reflect the entire picture...
LIKE how long ago was it that you were ever in the
180's so with that you will not be stuck in them for ever.
It will come!
HANG in there

Lisa,
You and I are so very similar! I started at 320 lbs prior to surgery, was at 299 the day of surgery and am now at 209 lbs., with a total weight loss to date of 111 lbs. Do you mind if I ask how tall you are? I'm about 5' 9" (perhaps a 1/2 less or so, since I am getting OLDER and may be doing the age-related shrinking thing!).
My weight loss this past month has slowed down to what your's was! That's why I am thinking that you and I are probably built alot alike. I notice on your posts the issue of your hair loss & the fact that your thick beautiful head of hair used to be the only thing you were proud of... that was my case also! I have been watching mine fall out by the handsful & I really hate that!!! My thick red hair was always my "crowning glory" and now I don't have that to fall back on anymore!!!!
At any rate, I am so "there" with all that you are saying... just thought I'd let you know!
Thanks,
Karen
It's OK, Diana. I'm with you. I was down to 248 on surgery day. This morning I weighed in at 178. The last 10 pounds have taken forever! But it's still coming off, so I can't complain. My entire life does not evolve around my weight and/or dieting anymore, so I'll take the slow loss without many complaints. Besides, I can shop on the normal people's side of the store! Think about it, though. I'm down 70 lbs in about 4 1/2 months. Even if I leveled off here, I couldn't complain too much because I'm so much healthier, and able to fit in seats at events! I'm 5' 7'' and aiming for 135 (because when I came out of USMC boot camp 12 years ago, I was at 127 with a lot of muscle. 135 seems reasonable.) But we'll see. I think our bodies will let us know where we need to be.
Take care of yourself and focus on how far you've come. Follow the rules and keep yourself HEALTHY!

HI KAREN!
in answer to your question, I am only 5'5....I am not sure how much i want to loose but i bet at 5'9 you must look real good.
BASED on a thread discussion with MARY jo i have ordered the
AVON shampoo and conditioner with BIOTIN. I think at this time
i need all the volumizing i can get so i have treated myself to some new shampoos! (THANKS MARYJO).MY hair is still falling out big time and im still sad about it ....but oh well! HOPEFULLY ill feel some peach fuzz real soon! I have been takeing biotin since before surgery.....
and KAREN its so nice to know we are all experiencing the same things and we are all normal.
I do know the closer to goal weight we get, the slower it will be to come off...MARY jo is doing great i must add looseing so well with about 27 lbs to go till goal. BUT with all this said i still dont regret my decision to have this surgery and would do it again!
I thought i wanted to stop looseing in the 160's i dont really know...but right now my first goal is getting under 200 lbs...i been over 200 lbs the majority of my adult life and being 43...thats alot of years

Diana,
I'm 5'4" and I started out at 262. I weighed 269.5 at my first consult on May 3. Today at almost 5 months out, I am at 190. 72 pounds gone!!!!
I too have noticed a slow down in weight loss, but it is still coming off. My goal is now 45 pounds away. I've really been trying to get in all my protein, but I've noticed from time to time a little more hair loss than I would like. I have really thick hair any way. Might not hurt to lose a little of it all over. Just not in one place for a bald spot.
You are doing great. Just hang in there.

I'm 5'5" tall. I went in to surgery at 250 lbs....as of this morning, I'm down to 172 for a total loss of 78lbs.
October was my slowest month with a loss of 10 pounds (all of it lost the first week and the last week of the month...with a stall in between). I wonder if this is because "most" post-ops stall around 4 months OR if it's because my hormones were all out of whack since my last period. Usually, I only break out (zits) the week before and TOM is only 4 days long... but last TOM lasted 7 days and I continued to break out all the way through to this TOM. Oddly, the eight days leading up to this TOM, I dropped 8 pounds! Plus, I got SLAMMED with menstrual migraines last TOM and this TOM. (that bites, because I thought they were gone for good) So, I don't know....hormones? body playing catch up?
I think there must be some truth to the losing inches even if you are losing on the scale thing though.... During the month of October, I was able to get into this one pair of size 14 jeans that I couldn't get into AND I bought a pair of Levi's size 12 jeans...and THEY FIT Comfortably!! So then I tried on the size 12 dress pants that I have been saving.....and THEY FIT!!!
I wanted to be 150 and a size 10 by Christmas.... And I wanted to lose 100 pounds by my 6 month anniversary. (that was my BIG goal) I won't make that goal but I'm okay with that. I'm thankful for my health and my progress so far. And I'm thankful that the scale is moving in the right direction, even if it is slow at times.
I pateaued at 201 and 180, and was CONVINCED the scale was torturing me! Hang in there. You will beat it.
Pam
Hi Diana,
Hang in there!!! Don't get discouraged. You are doing great! I started off way heavier than you- 332. I'm now at 258 for a weight loss of 74 lbs. so far. Talk about discouraging- not the weight loss so far, but the knowledge that I still have 100+ lbs. to go!! Hold your head high and be thankful for where you're at. I think all of us stalled in the month of October. I know I did for about 2-3 weeks.
Enjoy the ride- and the results!!!
Take care,
Kerri
